You might write the thing off in the first week or so - what would be the point of a well adjusted air filter then? Just ride it.

At any rate air filter is all of a tenner probably, new plug 2 quid, oil less than a fiver. An hours work if you're not sperging. If you've got to do something because OCD sperge, do that lot and worry about clearances later (or don't worry. Very unlikely to be an issue anyway).

Seller assured- there's been nothing done, except for an oil change.

With the air filter it depends on how long it is left. Some bikes are known to toast the air filters (GPZ500 does it occasionally), and which point having a large hole in the filter doesn't do much filtration.

Valve clearances vary. If they open up you will lose power, and probably wear the valve train a bit. If they close up then you will probably burn out a valve.

Service shows they should be getting a checking/adjusting every 2.5k, the bike in question hasn't had any 'service' -dealer or private- except only for oil change and rear tyre... and is at 7.5k.

Must do valves?

Avoid altogether?
