Sorted bike insurance today, was looking at third party fire & theft which came with a £250 excess

Wanted to clarify if the excess was just for a claim in the event of a theft or fire to which the phone monkey said:

"The excess is for any claim you make on the policy, if you had an accident we'd be looking to recoup the first £250 of any claim on the policy"

which to me contradicts itself as he's said a claim I make and then any claim.

I went 3rd party in the end, just wondering if I've understood things correctly as I presumed the third party liability indemnified me (there is no excess on the 3rd party only despite it being same underwriter) and that the excess was on the first part of a claim I made.

Any ideas?

Excess is payable if you're claiming from your own tpft or fully comp insurance.

You don't pay the excess if a third party claims from your insurance. Thumbs Up

If you mash someone else up, you're not the one making the claim. They're claiming against you, and your insurer has to indemnify you fully against third parties once blame is determined, no reductions, no exceptions.

thats what I thought, but he made it sound like, if I nudged a car from behind and broke the bumper (go with me on this) with no damage to myself the driver understandably wants his bumper fixing and claims on my insurance that the insurance company would then bill me for £250 excess on that claim.

nothing else claimed except the chap's bumper.

He probably fell asleep for the last half of his 10 minutes of training.

Did you ask for a fully comp quote? It is very often a lot cheaper!
