So I'm finally in a position to get my a2, I've almost got the funds, I just need to decide how much I want to spend on the bike. I've had a look around and found the GSX750F for as little as £1500.

What are peoples opinions on the gsx750f as a first bike? Is it easy to restrict, is it too powerful, too heavy etc?

And please don't mention the looks. I appear to be one of the few that like that element of the bike XD

Probably not going to be much help, however I have just fitted a restrictors kit to my Suzuki Bandit 600 and the process of fitting the restrictors is not hard. The only difference I see with this is that you'd have to remove the fairings and the rest should be quite straightforward. The engine looks like a reasonably similar setup so it's just a case of placing 4 small washers in between the carburetors and the engine.

However the bike has 93bhp which is the top end for a restricted hike meaning that it will effect the bike more than others.

I don't think it looks a bad bike at all! Thumbs Up

depends on the year. Earlier ones are over 100hp so no good.

Yup, looks like you'll need 1998 onwards. I can't find any definitive claim that the 67.2 kW @ 10,500rpm figure is either engine or rear wheel power, but it's repeated often enough that you should be fine.

My practical observation is that if you want a faired IL4 suitable for A2 restriction in that budget, then you'll struggle to find anything else.

I assume that it's the full fairing that's doing it for you over (e.g.) a FZS600 Fazer?

Apparently the FZS is 95bhp, but yeah, it was the full fairing that swayed me. That and it being on the limit of what I can restrict, means after two years I don't have to go out looking for a new bike.

My friend has a 1998 GSX750F (he's also on his A2, but the bike's never been restricted).

I've ridden it a handful of times and it was better than I expected.

It's massively underrated imo, I genuinely think if it wasn't so ugly it'd be a much more popular bike.

Bike's a bit lardy and not very agile, it takes a bit of effort and time on a chicane to get it back over onto the other side.

Very comfortable, as you'd expect from that sofa looking seat and decent high bars.

Engine's a peach, far from the most powerful but certainly powerful enough to keep up with most. Said friend with the GSX750F has seen 155 on the clocks, not bad going for what it is. It's also got an engine with good history, I can't imagine you ever having any major problems with it (it's a similar engine to the one's used in the oil cooled GSXR1100, GSXR750 & Bandit 6/12)

My mates done around 10k-ish miles on his problem free and I think the overall mileage is around the 30k mark. All he's had to replace was the rear shock (until a bird pulled out on him, he's now rebuilding the bike back up).

Said friend loves this bike to bits, more than his SRAD 600 and KLR 650.

In my opinion - If you can look past the dire looks, it's not a bad buy. Although for that budget i'd also consider a FZS600.

Can't add anything to the restriction question, just wanted to say I love mine. 37k on the clock, it's sweet as a nut and a great ride. Smile
