Wonder if anyone can help?

Today on my way home I think a police officer caught me speeding with a speed gun. I was doing 45 maybe 50 in a 40 zone. I wasnt pulled over.

I have a provisional license with a CBT! What will happen if he did register me?

My other worry is that I undertook someone in front of them before i saw them pointing the gun at me and I didn't have L plates on Sad could this be used too or would they have had to stop me for that?

You could get a pretty hefty penalty for that if the officer saw. Unlucky mate.

Probably never got a good ping on you. Would expect him to pull you over there and then. Buy a lottery ticket.

If they got you then you'll receive an NIP (notice of intended prosecution) in the post.

You might get sent on a speed awareness course or you might get some points and a fine.

If they noticed the missing L plate then they can give you three points for that as well.

I presume you've replaced the L plate which fell off earlier today. Wink

Undertaking isn't illegal.

There is no number plate on the front of your bike.
No worries.

Thank you

Do those guns record or take photos?

Some of the mobile cameras units record videos.

Bikes not having front number plates is less and less relevant. If it's a camera unit on a tripod stand thing then as you go past, they can rotate the cameras around and get your number plate then. Or they can just have another camera running pointing forwards so that there's no need to rotate the camera around.

Was it a cop with a handheld unit, a unit on a stand or a speed camera van that you think got you?

I'd imagine he would have noticed the copper turning and would have said.

They usually pull you into the kerb and talk to you on speed gun traps anyhow.

If they've got their camera unit set up at the side of the road then they're in no position to pull anyone over.

Yeah on some occasions there'll be other traffic cops further along the road waiting to pull over anyone the speed camera / gun has clocked but that's not necessary, the NIP can just be sent in the post and dealt with that way.

Well in a 40 you can be doing 45 and still not be done, as most forces use 10% + 1mph limit before bothering you with fines and points.

Saying that, they can do you for going less, but it's quite rare.

I wouldn't worry until the letter arrives.

There was a bunch of coppers but only one with a speed gun and no other cameras but no coppers further down the road

If you were really close to a car you probably got away with it, but fit that L plate because getting 3 points and a £100 fine is stupid for such a trivial and avoidable thing.

They do this all the time near me.
The guy with the gun steps out and waves you to the side of the road.
