Bosch washing machine has gone mental but as it's nearly 20 years old I can't blame it much. Anyone got any recommendations?

From what I understand all the brands that were good (20 years ago) like Bosch have all been bought and sold and are basically made in the same factories with the same parts and QC, just different facias...

So I'm after another that'll either

a) Last 20 years or so

or

b) Is good enough, but really cheap that I'll have to replace in 3 years.

Miele if you want it to last, I went for a Bosch last year as the Miele was just too big for the gap I had to fit it in.

DO NOT CHOOSE ONE THAT PLAYS YOU A TUNE.

It will be entertaining for the first two or three uses but then you will want to destroy it. Mine plays a noises when you turn it on, select the wash program, when it starts and when it finishes and I want to hurl it out of the window each and every time.

Try ao.com and have a look on there.

This! Oh, so much this! Crying or Very sad

Except for the "entertaining for the first two or three uses" - I hated it the first time I heard it.

Samsung have got a good reputation for machines these days with that anti bacterial silver thingy they speak about.

Whatever machine you get, how long it lasts is IMO down to how you look after it. I clean the filters out every month or so, and run an empty rinse cycle after most washes, sometimes with a squirt of bleach inside the drum. You should do at least one empty wash every month on hot to clean the machine out and use a recommended cleaning additive too.

Leave the door open when it's finished to let it dry out and always wipe sell the fluff and dirt from the door seal so it doesn't build up a black mess inside.

I covered the back and sides of my washing machine in a dynamat style sound deadening as I wanted it as quiet as possible, and it did help tbh.

Washing machine threads on BCF? Sick

Anyway, I've got an LG one which must be 6 years old and [touch wood] is still going strong. I bought it because of the large drum capacity, it can take 11kg so I figured that an 11kg drum being run at less than half capacity will last much longer than a 5kg drum being run close to full capacity.

Unfortunately, it does play a tune to let you know that it's finished but it's not loud and is only short.

It's got bluetooth which I've never used but I'm sure will be useful one day.

Cheapest Miele you can find.

The main advantage with them is that when they do, finally, break (tho we're still waiting for ours to go after more than 14 years (I have had to adjust the door seal slightly, twice)), Miele will still have parts for them instead of the bloke in Currys laughing at you saying "no, they discontinued that model 3 seconds after you bought it".

We've had a Bosch for about 15 years (they bought it when I was like 7).

It still washes perfectly fine. Except it sounds like a jet taking off and wobbles a lot now mid-wash.. But still washes perfectly fine.

Want quality? Buy Miele. When I worked doing surfactant stuffs there were banks and banks of washing machines in our labs, and they were run pretty much 24 hours, 5 days a week. The Miele didn't break.

My maximum was 40 loads on one machine, 8 replicates on other mieles, in a week.

They aren't cheap though.

On the other hand, in my kitchen I have a simple cheapo one, cost me £150 notes from one of those "bargain warehouse" things. It's lasted 2 years so far with loads much over the specified weights. At that price, when it breaks, I'll have a quick look to see if I can fix it, or simply replace it.

Don't get one with a big drum.

Mine has an 8kg drum and it has real trouble balancing to spin if you put heavy stuff in like bath towels or king size sheets.
