Hi

Have 2005 cbr1000rr is puffing white/blue smoke only when giving it heavy throttle.
Doesn't do it under acceleration or engine braking
Basically just if it give it full throttle it will give out a little puff of smoke.
Any ideas could it be valve adjustment it's 26k

Thanks for any advice

Probably the rings but could be valve stem seals.

White smoke is oil as said rings or stems. Compression test will help.

A puff of smoke is nothing to really worry about.

A constant blue haze, or an excessive stream of blue smoke on the overrun I might worry a bit more about.

Personally I wouldn't do anything about it.

If the bikes not using more than about 0.5l of oil every 1k miles, then it's fine for now.

Yeah definitely not a constant haze on overrun or power more a random puff when initial hard gassing it.
Would the 0.5l to every 1k apply to hard riding/track day use aswell?

Think I'll do an oil change for a good oil then monitor it from their.

Hard road riding should conform to the 0.5l ever 1k really. Just as a general rule of thumb.

If you went through 0.5l on a trackday I wouldn't worry too much about that either - it's not ideal though obviously.

My FZ6 uses a bit of oil but it's never enough that I need to top it up before every ride, just more like I need to check every now and again really and with the miles I do on it, I don't think it would use enough that I needed to top it up between it's annual change either - although it would probably have gone from max to min, if you get me.

OP, check the oil level and coolant level. If you are missing coolant = the engine is ''burning water'' = white smoke (would/could be wisible at idle though). If you are missing significant amount of oil = blue smoke, then what the lads say.

* Black smoke = rich mixture.

TL; DR: Check the fluids, if all there, then don't be paranoid and enjoy your motorcycle. Thumbs Up Smile

Just a thought.. if valve adjustment is out could this be a cause
Bike is 26k so probably due checking.
Coolant and oil level are all in order.

Valve clearances have got nothing to do with losing engine fluids. Thumbs Up

Here's what it's doing only does it at low rpm
Mid to high it clears no smoke on the overrun either.
Mechanics have said leave nothing to worry about they were
A wee bit stumped why would only Dow it at low rpm strange?
Don't think it's anything to worry but would prefer it not to be doing it lol.

Hmm that is very odd.

I'd say it was rings as there is not enough gas pressure behind them to seal at low RPM, but then if it was rings you'd suck oil into the combustion chamber on the overrun and it would smoke like a biatch when he backed off (which it didn't do) which is why I'm a bit stumpted.

Have you checked the airbox for and oil residue? Oil overflled? Crankcase breather issue?

Either way if it's sticking down 160 HP at the wheel, there can't be that much wrong with it.

Hi thanks for reply,

Yeah it's left us a bit stumped aswell my next thing to check is the crank breather going to try do that this weekend. Oil level is bang on just done a service with new oil before the dyno run,
Not checked air filter yet.
I know my mechanics really well I know they wouldn't bullshit me and they said it nothing to worry about.
It would just be nice to try and solve,
It is certainly a strange one.
