Today at the Belfast bike show on the Honda stand they had an interesting bit of kit. You sat on a bike linked up to a TV and tried to proceed safely through the roads with numerous hazards and following audible instructions of which directions to take and so on. The bike was different from any old arcade sim in that it was like riding a real bike. You had to start it and use the clutch and gears and you could stall (and probably wheely too by clutching it Twisted Evil ). The man said in Japan they used it as part of the CBT. I, however, made a mockery of it and I think I hold the record for fastest speed through a red light into the side of a car. I thought the idea was to rag it and get it to the other side of town as quickly as possible, obviously not. It was pretty cool and surprisingly realistic. Anyone else had a go on one of these?

I had a go on one at the NEC last year.

Apparently I was a little too aggressive... I was quite contented shouting abuse at the hazards in my own little world! Laughing
Still, I managed to get around the circuit without dying, with a comical duck when the lorry opened it's door - which entertained those who had gathered to see what all the shouting was about. Thumbs Up

They should make it into a PC game sort of thing, I think it would be a good learning aid, anyone agree? Smile

It'll probably replace the hazard perception part of the bike license process before much longer.

Just imagining Anna talking to herself as she went round on it too. Laughing Laughing Laughing

I used one of them at a show some years ago.. it was terrible, not really all that realistic to be honest, it felt weird and you have to steer it rather than lean/counter-steer.. didn't like it and can't see it making you any safer of a rider..

You could lean this one (to an extent) by the tank. The lad on before me was trying his best to get round but I was just seeing how hard the thing would go, going straight through red lights trying to get the knee down (I couldnt) Laughing

I had a play on it at the NEC, what a laugh Laughing

Better than an arcade game, but little to do with real life riding, it was warm and dry, no diesel on the road, no flies in your teeth, and you knew you weren't realy going to die when you t-boned a car.

Only good point was that they wouldn't let me wear a helmet on it Thumbs Up

I wouldn't want to see it as part of a bike test, but if every car driver was made to have a go then they might just wake up to the hazards that bike riders can face.
