Clutch lever bite

I've noticed on my YBR the clutch lever is nearly all of the way out before the bite catches. It's ok to ride now I am used to it, although the bike I learnt on had he bite about halfway through the motion of the lever. I just had a thought maybe I was missing out on some amount of motion to allow for smoother changes perhaps (is modulation the right word?) , and whether there was a way to adjust, or is my clutch shagged?

Sure, it's the same way pushbike cable brakes work and simple enough to adjust even while moving.
