Mrs Silky has ejected me from the garage ..... and yes i considered ending the relationship ... but she has huge tits and is a right filthy cow... so !!!

Anyway .... i now have a bike outside and want to alarm it.
Never owned an alarm, as in my day they were sh*t and just didnt work or drained the battery.

I would like something that can be tracked i guess too..... or just the best one for the money / opinions / etc.

Love Uncle Silky. Xxxx

They're still all shit, don't work and drain the battery. I'd just build a double garage or have proper insurance so at least you get paid out when it gets nicked. Remind Mrs Silky of the excess you'll have to pay.

Not true at all. What are you basing this on?

Datatool alarms are pretty good. I had the Red series I believe. Very configurable for different scenarios, including long term storage so takes very little battery to keep armed. I've never had issues with mine. Left it fully armed in normal mode for about 4 weeks and bike still started on the button after that.

Because you never hear of a bike that has been stolen despite having the 'best' mechanical security installed.

Just sell the bike. No other option.

Nonsense to all those saying alarms are hassle. I've had an SR-i900 from Scorpio on my Ninja for about a year and a half, and it's NEVER gone off because of the wind or because someone sneezed next to it.

It's NEVER drained my battery. It has deterred one would-be thief, and it is a two-way system with a loud key-fob that goes off to notify you that somebody's touched your bike. It somehow magically knows the difference between strong wind and someone touching your bike (bizarre I know).

You can remotely cut the bike off with the key fob if somebody starts it and you're not near it.

Key fob has a range of 800m (its really far, I've tested it)

It auto-arms itself when you turn the bike off so you never have to press a button, and so long as they key fob is on you, you don't have to disarm it before starting your bike as it does that automatically once you turn the key.

It has an immobilizer, a perimeter sensor that you can toggle on/off that warns someone nearby that it's armed and if they linger too long it goes all nutty, a tilt sensor and a shock sensor. (The key fob has an icon telling you which one was activated if your alarm is to go off)

It also comes with an optional connector kit so you don't have to cut wires if you want that for an extra £30.

Best £250 I ever spent and I fit it myself in a couple hours, would recommend to friends/family/dog/cat/pet rock.

At a guess, he's bought her a car, and this is his reward.

I have a datatool alarm on my striple which lives covered outside which has never caused a problem. A mixture of an alarm, good chain/ground anchor and maybe disc lock should be plenty to deter any would be theives. Proper insurance is always recommended though.

Ownership of various bikes and alarms over the past few years. All alarms have been scrapped after around a month. I wish they worked, but they're just shit, don't work and drain the battery.

For evidence of how well they work, look at the Ducati being stolen form the street. I bet the owner was glad he wasted £400 for installation of that piece of crap.

I always use the cheap and cheerful NCS ones with a decent chain. Loud enough to annoy and wake you but most will see the chain and fuck off.

Ok. So some mixed experiences and views:

Of course i thought of a chain .... but that doesnt stop people lifting the bike into a van .. or just cutting the chain (i have seen demos at bike shows of chain cutting in 5 seconds).

What i was hoping for is a simple alarm that alerted me as soon as the bike is touched... as the bike is underneath my bedroom window and i can run down and smash them over the head with a claw hammer or stab them up with a kitchen knife.

My Fazer came with a Meta 357tv2. I've had the bike 4 years nearly. The internal battery on the alarm gave up once it hit about 10 years old and started playing silly buggers. Replaced the control box for £125 and 30min of effort swapping it. Otherwise, it's worked faultlessly. And TBH, getting 10 years out of any battery before it needs some attention isn't too bad going.

Didn't really change my insurance premiums much mind.
Effective? Who knows, I doubt anyone will pay any attention to the alarm, but the immobiliser may slow someone down a little.
I certainly wouldn't leave the bike in London without the addition of a big chain wrapped around something.
