The old mans just got a triumph tt600, he says it seems to be running fairly hot. You can feel shit loads of heat rising between the fairings, the fan is working also. Anyone know if this is a problem, or do they all run fairly hot? Cheers

Cant remember exactly but was over 100°c maybe like 107°c . Could well be normal, just seems to fwel ridicolously hot, has recently had a full service.

107 is too hot, take it back to service chimps and tell them to sort it.

Is the cooling fan working all the time or coming on after 1 minute on tick over/idle?
Does this bike hesitate when revving?

Check that it has coolant in and not just water

Water is actually more efficient at cooling than the chemical additives. But you're right the op does need to check there is something in there.

Take a look on triumph rat.net . Seems these run hot at between 102 - 110.

https://www.triumphrat.net/triumph-supersports/32200-tt600-running-hot-is-this-normal.html

Do you know if they flushed the system when they serviced the bike? It's also worth checking all the connections for any leaks when it gets hot, make sure clips are tightened.

Done some research and they seem to run rather hot anyhow, the system was flushed and topped up with the required amounts. Thanks for the info guys Thumbs Up

Efficiency based on? Specific Heat Capacity?

More or less redundant as:
Water on it's own is not a good 'coolant' for many reasons.
The Main reasons:
Glycol based anti-freeze has many more benefits that far outweigh the physical properties of water alone.

Glycol based antifreeze lowers the freezing point permitting more or less 'care-free' operation in cold climates.

It also permits much higher running temperatures which can 'in fact' be more 'efficient' than possible with 'water only' systems due to better burn characteristics.

This is an example of why 'chemicals' are added to 'water' for use as a coolant.

OP. Generally the engine coolant regulator (thermostat) will begin to open at around 80-85ºC and should be fully open before 95-98ºC.
The fan will be switch-controlled to come on when the regulator is fully open and help cool the coolant then directed to through the radiator.

A pressure cap on the system also raises the boiling point of water.
The reason for this is to prevent the coolant turning to vapour/steam which will/can displace the liquid coolant and prevent the coolant from contacting the hot engine parts.
Localised heating produces 'Hot Spots' which may damage the engine. (Cracked Heads/Blocks)

It's fine, I have a Speed Four and it has always run that sort of temperature when in traffic. I was told it's only an issue if it reaches above 120 degrees.

What MCN said, I just couldn't be bothered to write all that out Laughing

Anyway if that's how its supposed to be then no probs, If not its about checking the simple things first like..... Is there coolant, is the pressure cap broken, is there flow around the system

Then on to is the, thermostat working correctly, head gasket blown etc. etc.
