Mod 2 coming up, any tips?

Hi guys, so mod 2 is coming up next week full cat a. (not saying when dont want to jynx it haha)

just had my last practice before test day quick hour ride around with instructor, all seems to be good, shoulders checks, checking mirrors, checking before moving away. just need to work on a couple of things

dont sit or stop to close to the car infront
when overtaking on a dual carriageway move out overtake and move back in again
some roads im finding it hard to tell the speed limit from 30/40 even though i drive a car for 6 years lol. lamposts are 30 and none is 40?

any other tips greatly appreciated, more to do with nerves on test day !

Three good pieces of advice i received from the people on here.

1) Treat the examiner like a sat nav
2) Sing to yourself (or swear at the examiner) as you go round on your test.
3) You will be (or should be told this) by the examiner, ride for YOURSELF

Have a hip flask ready for those moments of nerves, the instructor will ask you to pull to the side of the road a couple of times, giving you a good chance to have a nice chug.

Don't be too hesitant, you can be marked down for it.

Wheelies and stoppies are frowned on too.

Keep your distance, when the car in front passes a lamp post count to three slowly like a thick Norfolk village idiot, you should get to three before you reach the lamp post.

Remember to cancel indicators, it's a good idea to periodically press the cancel button, just in case.

A stop sign means stop, so stop and put a foot down.

Check the blue bus lane signs, It you can legally use the lane then do so.

If you realise at the last moment you've misheard an instruction to make a turn, keep going, do NOT swerve like a loony to go where the instructor wanted you to.

As others have said, make sure you cancel your indicators.

Stay tight to the left-hand kerb when turning left at a T-junction (the bloke I went out with when I did my Mod 2 failed because he left a massive gap and the examiner pulled up next to him).

Treat it like the examiner isn't there. You only need a two-stroke gap to pull out, so ditch him if you have to

If the radios are shit, just keep riding. Don't faff about and look around for the examiner. He'll catch up with you. If you can't hear him, just keep going straight on. On my test, the radios fucked up a lot and I thought we'd have to stop the test. In the end, the examiner told me to follow the signs to somewhere-or-other, then overtook me and gave me the next set of instructions. Moral is: just keep riding. Don't fuck about. Even if he says "take the first exit" and you take the second exit, you won't fail if you do it correctly

Also, use the bus lanes if they're available to you at that time of day.

I did mine recently but in training kept forgetting to cancel my indicators, so before my test everytime i checked my mirrors pressed the cancel button, that stopped it immediately. Remember your shoulder checks and just ride safely. You should be fine. Good luck

Do all of the above. Especially that on directions, they can't fail you for going the wrong way (so long as it's legal, e.g. wrong way street, motorway slip road etc). With crappy radios on my test, I kept missing the first 1-2 seconds of every instruction, missed a right hand turn, went straight into a queue for a railway crossing and sat stationary for 5 minutes - bonus! You can feck up if you're stationary!

You won't be expected to filter, so don't bother. The less progress you make in your allotted time, the less chance you have to run into a feck up scenario. Obviously, don't take piss and sit at back of queue of traffic when adjacent lane going same way is empty.

Shoulder checks all the time, even when pulling out of test station.
Foot down at stop signs.
Cancel them indicators.
Don't ride over the white spots of mini roundabouts.
Spot all the speed signs (chap before me failed for doing 40 in a NSL).
Maintain a decent gap in front, even if ejit in front is so slow.
Junctions: turning left, position yourself on left, turning right, position next to central line (if painted or not). BUT if you're going right out of a one way street, position way over by right hand kerb.
When asked to pull over, don't block a drive, don't park right next to or opposite a side road.
My local test centre was in a 20mph, if yours is similar, dunna feck it up in last 2mins by forgetting this!

Overall, just keep that vision up. You'll spot stuff sooner, stuff won't surprise you, you'll feel more confident and everything will be smoother.

My niece failed her first driving test for being too far under the speed limit, sixty on a seventy mph stretch of the A10, so try and keep as near to the limit as possible, safety permitting.

Don't lose your cool if you think you've messed up. Carry on! There's every chance you've done nothing wrong, and even if you have they may not have noticed it.

It's probably an idea to talk yourself through each action. Doing so out loud will make you more concious of what you're meant to be doing and take your mind off being nervous.

Can never have too many life savers. Check after passing a line of parked cars, and remember to check on bicycle lanes as well.

If you don't hear the examiner properly and you take a wrong turn, they can't fail you for misunderstanding. Take your time and just continue correctly rather than panicking.
