hi all,
So ive got a 2 stroke rs125 great bike and i love it.
been thinking about taking a step for to a bigger bike
unsure what to do ive been thinking a 4 stroke 250 could be a very little
step up or even a step down on accleration, breaking etc. just gain on top end ?
not sure why but im into just sports bikes and nothing else really takes my fancey from what i've seen.
the agressive position suits me fine.

im 25, and not wreckless and ride for fun only( no commuting etc)
im in no rush, looking to do my full licence this year and then step up arround aprill next.
budget arround 3k for a bike.

any sujestions would be great
cheers all

Do your DAS and make your mind up after that, as right now it's all speculation.

Once you ride a 600cc + bike, there's very little chance you will want anything lower, even if you love the idea now of a 300cc(ish) bike, they just don't offer the same riding experience of a bigger bike.

125 to 600 is the usual step up, far more machines to choose from. Remember it'll only go as fast as you want it to, in reality the stepping up in all down to how hard you twist your right wrist.

I went from a de-restricted NSR 125 to a cbr600 and its chalk and cheese...
You won't want to go back down but I feel I may have lost some of the enjoyment working my way up.

Its going to be more hassle/expense changing bikes but I would say in hind sight it would almost be worth it to enjoy that little more power at each step...

I do miss that *point and pray* feeling but anything faster than what I have and i'll be a hazard to myself and everyone else Rolling Eyes

What about an early R6 maybe?
A nice well looked after grey 400 sportsbike would be another option, but they are probably at least as heavy as an R6 for about 40bhp less depending on where you measure it from?

A mint 400 is a bike you'd probably make money on too, as they are harder to find and going up in cash now.

If the 300 Ninja engine was in a Mito or RS it might be OK too. But despite more top speed and torque, it's probably going to struggle to make 10bhp more than an RS as std.

thanks all for taking your time to post.

have been looking at the older sports bikes and like a few like gsxr 600
daytona 600..

biggest concern in weight on an older models even tho im prob better at low speeds than high and could flat foot both im a little worried about dropping at lights/slow manouvers

i defently wont be going for a 250/300 my rs is fullpower not highly tuned but could make some of these newer entry bikes look silly.

ive seen the newer cbr600f has great reviews for a first "big" bike
but these things go for serious money and mabie a little timid?

i do pass the odd streetfighter look bike and some look mean! can never find ones on the internet though mabie the pics dont do them justice.

another thing is throttle responce on a sports, my rs is a little twichy but i assume its a diffrent ball game on a ss.
all the research i can find on the ss that really theres not a massve amount of diffrence to them ( ruthlessness)
any sujestions for somthing thats not gonna want to throw me off for a small mistake? not sure if these are horrior storys on the web to push away young lads asking "can a buy a superaports for my first bike".

anyway once again thanks for your inputs
ride safe

R6 is probably the closest older 600 sports bike to something light and nimble like an RS125.

They are only about 165kg dry I think, and the reason I suggested them is that they were supposed to be like a two stroke four stroke, in terms of power delivery and fast steering and nimble handling.

I never rode one, but I bet my old 600 ninja would feel like a stable but smooth torquey sports tourer in comparison.

yeah the r6 needs to be revves high to get the power? just like a 2 stroke. they look massive compeard to the newer bikes thats what puts me off
i do like the ninjas but to be honest not bright green!
would you say a ninja is an agressive bike? they have one of the most agressive riding position?
its quite hard for me to find a older ss to go and sit on etc my local shop is mostly newer 09 and earlier.
did have a sit on my dads gsxr750 older shape felt quite conmfy and really low seat.
