Shoei XR1000 vs NXR

I currently own the Shoei NXR helmet. a friend has just offered me his XR1000 that he has worn once. an accident at work means he wont be riding a bike again for a while. is there much difference between the XR1000 and my NXR? is one better than the other, if so why?

Both fit well and feel comfortable.

The NXR is a much newer design. It is the follow on to the XR1100 I think, which was the follow on from the XR1000.

The NXR is definitely the better helmet. The XR is a two generation old NXR essentially. It went XR1000 -> XR1100 -> NXR.

The main difference is the view. The small shell and large view on the NXR is worth so much. I put my Caberg on the other day after refitting the pads and it felt like looking through a letterbox in comparison.

I'm a very happy NXR owner. As others have said the NXR is two models ahead of the XR1000, which is not to say the XR1000 wasn't a good helmet, because it was.

It's perhaps worth having it as a spare if it fits nicely, but you'll probably find it shows its age out on the road if you're used to your NXR.

I have the XR1000 and have just replaced it with a Qwest which I was debating alongside an NXR.

The XR is a fair bit lighter than both the NXR and the Qwest. The aperture is larger on both of them though, and the vents seem better on the Qwest at getting air in and keeping noise out, but that's subjective.

Both are good lids. The XR is bound to be at least 5 years old now, though.

Xr1000 old now, bought a pink butterfly one 4 years ago from George white for £60. It's my spare,spare, if I have to!
