I don't like it. I've nothing against the cafe-racer concept but I don't see anything that looks like it's had any attention to detail put into it. The finish doesn't justify the price tag IMO.

Can I have the bits you threw away? I love bikes from that era, feel much sadness when one is chopped and flogged. I wonder how long before people start chopping up Duke 916's to make trellis framed faux-period street scrambler cafe racer full beard piss pot specials?

You can see why people do it though; buy a couple of grands worth of bike, throw a couple of grands worth of bits at it and sell it immediately with a price tag 200% greater than what it cost. You don't get a return like that with many investments I guess.

Question for those who know a bit about building;

It's it a legal requirement to cover the spray-back caused by the wheels? Isn't that why modern bikes have those ghastly appendages stretching back from the rear subframe, the thing they stick the license plate on? I'm running my little GS 125 without a front 'mud' guard currently as it's broken. It's like riding behind a garden sprinkler when there's puddles about...

It's a legal requirement that the bodywork extends over the rear wheel hence why those number plate hangers exist. You also need a front mudguard too. It's against construction and use regulations to not have those things.

My thoughts were that with the wear on those tyres it looks like it's barely been around a corner.

And exhaust wrap on a bike that's ridden in the UK, especially one lacking in mudguards, tends to get dirty, soaked and rot the exhaust which doesn't get noticed because it's wrapped in exhaust wrap.
