Hello everyone,

As I am sure a lot of you as well I wear a suit at work on a daily basis and my work requires me to visit other businesses e.t.c and I am not based in an office everyday.
Not having a top box or any panniers on the bike I wear the suit underneath the gear and thus when I reach my destination it doesnt look in prime condition.
Often I carry a backup where I can put my shoes and other stuff but it doesnt really work with what I need.
Anyone has any solutions from similar experience or suggestions are welcome.

First off - get a top box anyway Smile.

Then - consider a road-crafter one piece. Easy to take on and off quickly, so less mashing clothes.

Hood do some not-bad looking 'work' trousers with kevlar lining. Won't offer amazing protection, but should stop the worst.

Also - learn not to crash Smile.

I'm a consultant, so my job is similar - travelling between offices in London most days.

I decided to fuck the suit off and just wear black 501s under my gear Laughing

Get a top box.

I really don't think there's much real choice tbh.

Wearing anything over the suit will always cause it to become crumpled.

And how much business have you lost because of that?

+4 for a big top-box. It looks spacky, but then... you're wearing a suit.

Really, who still does that?

For the £30k a year I get, my boss makes do with me in a shirt and jeans. If she's lucky, I'll wear a pair of £13 ASDA shoes rather than my bike boots.

Buy a linen suit.

Supposed to look rumpled anyway.

This. If they care what you wear, they're looking at the wrong qualities.

I'm a contractor, and I can honestly say that wearing jeans every day has made absolutely no difference to the amount of work I win or the rate I'm paid for that work.

I'll wear a suit to the first meeting... maybe. But I'll often just wear jeans there too. I figure if they're bothered enough not to sign the deal, then I don't want them as a client anyway. Worrying about trifles is indicative of how the future working relationship will go.

I fold my suit jacket, trousers and shirt up carefully and put them in my top box and then shoes and large bag go in one of the panniers.

When I get to where I'm going it all gets transferred into the bag, I go and sign in at the reception and ask where the toilets are and go and get changed in them and transfer all my bike gear into the bag.

Once done I then go and get changed back again.

Most people I meet with are pretty curious as to what's in my big black holdall but then are pretty impressed at how organised I am and that I use the bike as the most efficient way of using my time, that goes along way when you're selling IT security managed services to large organisations.

if I was in that sort of job I wouldn't consider using a bike as a daily form of work transport

'business wear' is still a thing, at least it is for a lot of folk. I refuse to wear scratchy mega nylon stuff, so have snappy wool/silk stuff for work that is totally fooked if I wear it under my bike gear. I'm lucky enough be able to hang my work gear up in my office and change there, having to wear similar gear to work whilst having to travel to different sites must be a right pain. It would be top box and side panniers all the way if I had to do that. With a triumph sprint St 955 towing it all along!

Infuriatingly, even I have to concede that sometimes what you wear *does* matter.

The only solution really is a top box, you can fold stuff neatly in there.
I used to change into a "legal secretary outfit" in the loos at Great Marlborough Street, but I had to have a top box to keep it neat, and to put my office shoes into, instead of jeans and trainers that I usually turned up in.

I recently invested in several crushproof little black dresses (yay!) and just put my jeans on underneath. Still need a top box for the power heels, though.

Fewer every year, thankfully. I used to toil under the business wear yoke, but when your paying customers turn up in jeans and polo shirts it begins to look a bit daft. I'm guessing this is mostly a City thing now.

I wear a suit to work a lot of the time. I'm lucky enough to have a wardrobe and locker where I store 2 weeks worth of clothes at a time.

I wore the suit under the bike gear once, and got it wrecked. Learn how to fold a suit correctly and put it in your bag/topbox, just don't wear it.

Nothing wrong with it? They are his paying customers, he would use "you're" if he was paying them.

I did about 18 months travellinb round offices in the bike on a suit. Decent full height boots with trousers carefully folded underneath, non iron shirt (decent one, not asda tat) with a buff to keep the collar clean and jacket in topbox. Maybe one in 50 people clocked I was on the bike, mostly because they pulled up at the same time. I'd say you need full luggage to do it properly though (unless you gets burgman or something)
