I'm not sure I get the hero worship over this, maybe I was born too late?

A bloke who made his name(s) from punching people repeatedly in the face until they lost consciousness, hung around with Malcolm X and also changed his name to Casius X (because he was a millionaire slave or something), then converted to Islam and picked another name to fit his Muslim culture. Somehow he's seen as the "punching someone repeatedly in the face" version of Nelson Mandela, because he was black and thought his real name was his "slave name".

I don't get it personally.
