How can the CEO of DVLA still refer to it as tax?

That's not correct is it?

Would have been much more sensible to add 3p/litre onto all road fuel and then bin off VED entirely since it's not ringfenced, but they would do that as it prevents the chancellor being able to influence tax revenues and vehicle purchasing habits and would have led to job losses at the DVLA, which is in Wales....

Pretty predictable really, although I do remember people saying the DVLA were just doing it to get more money.

Paying monthly by DD just makes it easier to SORN a bike, without going to the hassle of sending back a tax disc for a refund of the months used.

Also, the lack of needing tax just makes one less thing needed for selling a car. The lack of tax when buying doesn't bother me anyway, as close friends of mine will ride it home anyway.

Also nice not being done by a prick bike cop for failure to display a £15 tax disc.

So they are relying on ANPR and the database to catch people. Fine thorough the post etc. etc.

I ask because I know from my police friends they won't bother pulling a car for no tax alone, only as part of a bigger pull. No insurance, speeding etc.

I can confirm that they are sending letters out to untaxed vehicles inviting them to pay a "fine". I got one such letter myself, for a car I had sold on to a scrapper a few months earlier, along with a speeding fine, loads of parking tickets and a dart charge letter. The DVLA had fucked up the change of keeper.... Rolling Eyes

There's little by the way of fact in that article though.

It's seemingly down 9%? That could well be down to newer less VED exposed cars coming through as we get through to newer vehicles.

On the other hand..................between me and my company, I've bought, sold, taxed and SORN'd several vehicles, since the system went online; so far, I haven't had a single problem, all my/our vehicles are showing as taxed or not (and insured/MOT'd) as applicable and I/we haven't had any spurious fine letters or erroneous ANPR tugs.

It's working for me.

Until it doesn't, then I'll be squealing like a stuck pig about it Wink

Tbh I've had no issues with it, apart from resenting it for being completely pointless.

Direct debit monthly payments was a nice and overdue touch too.
