He's saying that you're trading but have told Nominet you aren't to hide your address. Displaying paid for advertising is regarded as trading even if you're not selling goods.

I wouldn't be that concerned, Nominet are pretty useless.

I did find your gear price comparisons quite interesting, if only because they show that there's pretty much no difference in the pricing, so service is the only reason to shop at any of those three.

We've written to the site's registrant (and their registrar) to tell them they can either make changes to meet our opt-out criteria or we'll have to remove their opt-out and make the registrant's address public. They now have seven days to respond before we automatically do this.

Why the negative welcome?

Have I missed something?

From what I can see it's an individual who's joined who also owns a business which is bike related. They haven't promoted their business directly, they've just simply put a link to their business website in there signature. I'm pretty sure a few regular BCF'ers have a link to their business website in there signature.

Nobody is bothered about that.

The way I see it, the more of a regular someone is, the more they can 'get away with' in terms of advertising in their posts or signature.

I'd say, not even a 'business' it's just a site with some advertising on it. Doesn't sell anything, has stuff listed from at least 3 competing sites - but Nominet's rules are retarded, having advertising puts you in the same class as a business.

Nominet are retarded anyway, they told me on the phone about 5 months ago, and I quote, "A business should have the address on their domain WHOIS but it's not against the law to have the wrong address on there".

I was basically trying to track down an owner of a domain name for a client and they told me that.

123 The Moon,
Moon Avenue,
Button Moon,

Sorted.

I appreciate making a new website is hard, but I think this is very poor and you are also potentially breaking the (copyright) law.

Don't the Great Kornholios rules suggest any form of advertisement on the site has to be ran by him? Thinking
If so the regular users technically shouldn't either without permission.
Not that I'm bothered by it of course ...GET OUT OF MY HEAD ADVERTISERS! ...ahem. Whistle

Side note, does anybody else really want to click Ste's links out of curiousity but end up knowing better through past history?

Do you know what guys, I came on here to join a new community. I'm actually shocked at the negative welcome that you guys have provided. I really do not believe I did anything to deserve that...

Yes, the majority of our posts are RSS created, as we are just trying to combine relevant news that bikers might find interesting. We've worked hard on the comparison engine, as again, we thought other bikers would find it interesting. We spend so much time chopping and changing between sites checking prices, we just wanted to make life easier for people.

We do write some of our own bits, and thats increasing as time goes by.

As far as the Nominet thing goes, we never intended for this to be a business, and wouldn't class it as such. If we're breaking some sort of nominet rule, then we'll happily change our 'status' and comply. But do you know what, you could have just pointed that out to us, rather than acting in the way you did.

I am really saddened by the response you show to a new member. Sad

It's an initiation of sorts. Power through and show you have a sense of humour and you'll be accepted.

Unless you ride a Harley. They'll never accept that Laughing

Very Happy Well, thats one hell of an initiation. Never been one to shy away, but I really wasn't expecting such a negative reception straight of the cuff....

Thanks for being the first positive person to speak to me! You shall officially enter my 'friends' list. lol Not that that will do very much - I seem to have been marked as spam by every user and their dog, making my status turn to shite. I'm surprised you saw my post to be honest! Smile

your going to need to get some thicker skin if want to stay round here.

shall I point out why you got such a warm welcome.

your username is your company name
your signature includes a link to your company
your signature states your the co-founder of said company
you haven't introduced yourself or your company
have you ask the site owner if you can advertise your company through his site < I doubt it!
have contributed anything back to the site owner for advertising on here, bcf doesn't run for nothing < again I doubt it ?

perhaps if you had come along and tried to join in and bit sough permission instead of just assuming you could plonk a free advert up here, your reception would have been more welcoming

Never intended to piss anyone off. The 'company' isn't a company. This is done for fun, it costs me money to run, it doesn't make money....

The username etc. is just habit. Whenever I'm talking bike related bits, thats my alias. Its second nature to me.

Had I joined up intending for this to be an advert, I would have done it differently. I'd have no problem contributing to the running of a community that I valued. Like I said, I know these things don't run for free.

Fact is, it was a pretty shitty reception, and a simple point out of the nominent rules I'm breaking would have sufficed. That was a pretty shitty action.

Anyway, thanks for the welcome, hopefully I can turn some of your opinions of me around. I'm really not the free advertising hogging, article stealing, demon bitch that you all seem to think I am... honest... Smile Well, the bitch bit can be true....
