Hi guys,

Just in search of a little advice from anyone that may have added an aftermarket can and remapped their ecu. I recently changed the stock exhaust on my CBR6 for a Delkevic slip-on. Currently rides ok but I've noticed that the throttle is a little weak on setting off and a little fluffy, especially around 2.5 to 3k revs. I'm wondering whether it'd be worth getting it put on a dyno and having the ecu remapped? And if so, could anyone recommend a good place to have it done? I live in London but could potentially ride out of town if there's a good place nearish by.

Also, I'm curious (if anyone has had any experience with the Delkevic cans) whether it's worth removing the baffle to give it a little more noise before having it remapped, or would this be likely to be bad for the engine - as I've heard removing the baffle will also reduce necessary back pressure. I'm a little new to this area of mechanics so please forgive my ignorance.

If anyone has thoughts on this it would be greatly appreciated.

D

Just fitting an end can doesn't normally require a remap. Power Commander and a map to suit is the easiest way to go. If it feels better after that I wouldn't bother getting it dynoed (others may disagree).

Stubby cans without baffles can cause a reduction in low/mid range but will give you gains at the top end. Removing the baffle won't harm the bike.

Thanks for this. If I got hold of a PC5, do you think it would be possible to run without getting someone to tune it? Spoke to Steve Jordan bikes and PDQ in Maidenhead, both said to buy a PC5 and then for them to dyno and tune it to get it to feel the benefit. Would cost £535 altogether, the cost is getting a bit excessive.

If I had a tunable ECU or piggyback unit, and my bike was worth a few quid, I'd not trust any old random downloaded map off the Internet personally. Not unless it was from.a trusted source or from someone else that's done what I'm trying to achieve before and put in the hard work/expense or trial and error.

The Power Commander 5 comes with a choice of maps from Dynojet, they are not random maps off the internet. You may not find a map specifically for standard bike with Delkevic slip on but there will be a map for something very similar (stubby or full size can, standard filter or K&N etc). The PC 5 even has an auto-tune facility using an O2 sensor to make adjustments on the fly if you don't want to use a generic map.

Having said that, I would have no issues with using a generic map supplied by Dynojet. That's coming for somebody that worked in the tuning industry.

Thanks for the replies. That's refreshing to hear, re. using a dynojet map. Most opinions I've read seem to be of the mind to definitely get a dyno and custom map made. I assume I could run a PC5 on one of the generic maps for a while and if I felt it needed it get a custom map made at a later date?

That's exactly the way I would do it.
