Our chums at the DVLA never fail to amaze me. I received a V5 for my new bike on Monday, which had my name incorrectly printed - they had invented an initial in my name which doesn't exist! So, I swiftly phoned them to advise them of their error. The agent told me that they would remove the initial and send me out a new log book.

Today, I was talking to a neighbour that sold his bike on the 28th May and he said that he received his VED refund. That reminded me that I am yet to receive a refund for a bike I sold on 8th May, some 20 days before he sold his! So, on the phone to our chums again. An arrogant agent goes through security with me and advises me that my address is not correct for the old bike!??!? I query this further and it transpires that the agent who took my call earlier in the week about my incorrect V5 for my new bike, has processed the incorrect name on my old bike. How the hell did that happen I ask myself. Obviously, no answers from the agent, just a remark - "I can not comment as I was not involved with that conversation" referring to my previous call. The department that deal with this issue are now closed until tomorrow, so I will have to call back then.

So now, not only do I not have my refund for my old bike's VED, the new owner of my old bike will now be receiving a new V5 to his address, but with my name on it.........

Unbelievable!

Place your bets now on how long and how many phone calls it will take me to get this put right!

All.

All the long, all the phone calls.

Start training your children to clear your name.

That sounds brilliant. Well done DerpVLA Thumbs Up

I sent 3 V5s in, once upon a time. With a covering letter with bullet points of what I wanted doing with each of them.

I wanted all three address changed and one SORN.

They did that, and they also decided to SORN another vehicle on my behalf. This was in the time of tax discs so at least I had proof that my car was taxed for 5 months after they decided to SORN it. I only found out when I came to renew the car tax and they wanted me to pay from Jan because it hadn't been taxed since then.

Oh ALSO when they changed the address, they also added an extra keeper onto all of their history, the previous owner, me at my previous address.

This happened to me with a car that I bought a couple of years ago, took about 2-3 months for it to be fixed. How can it take so long...

Thats why you never send in your old license when it's up fpr renewal. Do it on line, keep your old one. Tell them you lost it. Anything but send in the old one until you have the new one in your sweaty little mitts.

They won't even entertain photocopies I have been told so don't think that will save you in case of fuck ups.

Well, I've just finished on the phone with them again. They claim their errors are all sorted now, so I will just have to wait and see what comes in the post!

We moved house, my wife filled in both our licences (I signed mine) and sent them off together,

came back with my wife's as 26 block of flats and mine as 26B block of flats

I didn't bother doing anything about it since there was no 26B

moved again, sent both V5's off together and they sent one of them to a random address up the street but wouldn't tell me where due to 'data protection' as if it had been just a couple of doors away I'd have knocked on and asked if they had it.

Just what is it with the DVLA ? if that was a private company serving the public they would all be sacked for incompetence! It seems like no one there gives a sh*t and they are answerable to no one! I would love a job like that. Laughing

Precisely, they would never get away with it in the private sector. It disappoints me that a government establishment can get away with such terrible service, for something that is actually quite important.

I'm firmly of the opinion that much of the DVLA is workfare for Taffies. For all the talk about efficiency drives, and shutting down the regional offices, they don't really want to cut jobs in Swansea as they'll just end up on the dole.
