PostPosted: 10:20 - 15 Jun 2016    Post subject: Got my new exhaust... Reply with quote

So about a week or so ago, thanks to the help of some BCF members, I chose to buy myself a Danmoto XG-1 exhaust for my Bandit with the baffles. After waiting a week for them to be delivered I fitted them yesterday. F*****G HELL!!! They were a lot louder than I had first expected, despite a brief warning.

Now I'm not too sure what to do with them, I'm going to try it out today and go for a little ride but I don't think I can keep them due to increased chance of being pulled and annoying the neighbors. If it does come to wanting to sell them I will. I guess I'm worried about being pulled due to never being pulled over in my life. Any advice?

I guess thats what I'm hoping. I live in the countryside in the middle of nowhere so that's not the problem, when I go into town I will just have to be very careful on the throttle I assume?

you're unlikely to get pulled over by the feds but arsehole neighbours might dob you in to the environmental peeps for disturbing their afternoon nap [serious].

Also just be aware if it's that loud you probably won't enjoy your rides as the noise will just get annoying. Also may cause ear damage if you're not wearing plugs.

Thanks for all the advice. Well I guess I will just have to see how it goes. I'll take it into town tomorrow and just hope for the best!

Luckily my neighbours aren't too bad, they would come to me first I would have thought!

They probably thought the same about you, you rapscallion.

The costs are already sunk, so do what you want. Don't feel compelled to leave the shouty-cans on just because bigger boys told you that you can be in their manly club for men.

Told you so!

I always wear earplugs now, which I should have done all along due to wind noise. Only realise how loud they are if I need to pop out briefly and don't wear any.

You should be fine, I haven't been pulled and been past numerous Police(wo)men and cars.

If you like them, and don't mind the noise, keep them. But if not, get rid, they weren't THAT expensive and you coul dprobably sell them for a similar amount to what you paid for them...

Damnoto cans are obnoxiously loud.

I had a Scorpion stubby on my 1200 Bandit and (for me) it was just the right amount of noise, even with the baffle out. Could ride it without ear plugs and no danger of hearing loss.

If you aren't happy with it just stick it on ebay and get some money back, put it towards a quieter can that you will be happy with.

The anonymous, unmarked can on my Street Triple is equally of concern. Not so much worried about being pulled for it, but it's a bit embarrassing when I take it through peaceful Lake District locations. On any high street, everyone stops to look round at what's making all the racket! Laughing
My main worry is, will it get through an MOT? Guess I'll need to find somewhere "understanding" enough to pass it as I'm reluctant to lay out for a replacement now.
The neighbours seem to be ok with it though, as I don't spend ages letting it warm up before riding off.

When I'm in the mood for riding this bike though, the sound track plays a large part in the enjoyment as gearbox whistle, induction roar and can all rise to a crescendo of aural awesomeness! Twisted Evil

However, remove them and you're OUT.

Is it marked "Not For Road Use"?

As long as it doesn't say that you should/may just get an advisory for noise. Stick an ebay BSAU sticker or plate on it if you're worried.

No markings whatsoever, don't even know what make it is, so hopefully all will be well Praying

MOT reasons for rejection (found on a not too dodgy looking site):

2. A silencer that is in such a condition or is of such a type that the noise emitted is clearly in excess of that which would be produced by a similar machine fitted with a standard silencer in average condition.

3. A silencer marked 'NOT FOR ROAD USE', 'TRACK USE ONLY' or similar words

My Triumph can might have had a not for road use marking on the heel guard, but it's impossible to tell as whatever was there appears to have been worn smooth. Whistle
MOT tester made no remark (it's not stupid loud). The bike was thoroughly cleaned and gleaming with WD40 and wax. When I asked if was all okay (I was a bit surprised at how quick he was): "Yeah, no problems, you should see the state of some of the stuff that comes in" with a shake of the head.

I went out on the bike today to see how it would fair in a large village near home. I could be quite with it, just have to go very steadily!

That's what I found today, I love the sound of it and wouldn't mind hearing it go past me but for others that want some peace I don't want to sound like a massive obnoxious twat! (too late)

Exactly this. I'll put some earplugs in, but when I gave it a little blip of the throttle it makes my skin tingle and chest hair grow![/quote]

On my MOTs, the typey-typey takes more time than the test. It's a 5 minute job, even done right. The headlight alignment check seems to be the most lengthy single item.

My R1 had a stubby race can with absolutely no packing or baffles, was basically a straight through pipe and was fucking deafening at pretty much any throttle opening, and I never once had any trouble from plod.

All my bikes have had ridiculously loud cans and I've never been stopped for it anywhere, even riding in and around London loads.
