Following on from some posts about ad blockers, do you use them?

If so why / why not?

Personally, I have used them for years and will continue to do so. What if a website I really like relied on ads for it's sole source of income? I'd find another and wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I do, but disabled here and some other sites. There are a couple of websites I frequent which are impossibly slow due to ads. One is particularly annoying on a tablet because it auto-sizes the page downwards so you click on a sub-forum link and find that it actually opens a totally different section.

I don't feel guilty about it. I also fast-forward through the ads on recorded programs and skip the ad pages in the papers. Sometimes I don't even look at buses when they pass Very Happy

I download pretty much anything TV wise, just so I don't have to watch the adverts (if ad blocker won't block them).

I do use an ad blocker, but I am unsure why I disabled it for BCF.

In my defence, I couldn't work out how to do the poll and wrote the answers first then it wouldn't let me post it, so typed the title last without checking Very Happy

I feel the mobile ad blocking scene is weak and needs to up its game. There is an adblock browser but I'm not keen on it (Android).

Untrue. Shifty
Although I for a period did have it disabled for BCF as the ads aren't so annoying here, but I'm fickle. Dance!

If you use an ad-blocker, but disable it on BCF, can you still get gold blobs?

I've an issue with this.
Sky hold the rights to air prem games in the UK to subscribers.
If I choose to watch it from another source over the internet, or via another satellite, I don't see how I am doing anything illegal or unlawful.

I am not entering into a contract with SKY, SKY is a company that has a contract with the EPL, not with me or anyone else, so I don't see why the legal system get involved in prosecuting people/pubs etc, surely it's down to SKY to bring civil action (for what I dont know, as I still struggle to see how this is illegal).

The copyright laws are specific in that you are not allowed to make copies to distribute or display for public viewing. If you are at home streaming, you are not making a copy or distributing anything. What laws are people being charged with?

I dislike using AdBlock, because in reality AdBlock is a bit of an extortion racket; pay money to AdBlock, or your website will be blacklisted and ad-spaces blocked. Buuut... The websites have only themselves to blame for the relentless barage of intrusive animated banners, pop-ups and re-directs. If the ads were not so in my face, I wouldn't really need Ad-Block.

What Sky/Bt pay for is the right to screen the matches in the UK. Not just to their subscribers.

Quite what law that is breaking is a strange one and I would guess at a civil matter, rather than a criminal matter.

If these co's had any sense they would not pay £££ for the matches. They would tell the like of the FA, that they need the TV co's more than the TV co's need them.
So FA etc you pay the TV co's to cover the matches....

I don't tend to use them, but I do have some filters which are generally on.

Where i'd really like ad blockers is on my windows smart phone, it can be a right fiddle to browse some sites, and then the stupid ad obscures the whole screen and I can't get rid of it, or end up navigating away from the page.

I prefer using my smart phone, cos it just works, where laptops seem tediously slow busy doing a 100 and 1 things I keep telling them not to do, and windows updates seem hell bent on telling the laptop to ignore my previous instructions and go back to doing things I don't want it to do.
