...just completely buck the hyperbike trend and remain true to the bike's roots. Maybe even reduce capacity if it improved the balance and handling of the bike.

I feel no urge to buy any of the 190+ bhp monsters of today. A well balanced bike, completely useable on the road with thick paint and a nice power delivery would suit me down to the ground.

Is there any news on it? I've been looking at the 2009 - 2014 models but the oil consumption stories scare the bejesus out of me.

I'm at the point now where my budget would maybe stretch to a new one...

I'd like them to remake a modern original Goldwing. The Goldwing without any of the bling and bits on it.

Would be nice if they just made something with a bit of character once in a while.

I'm yawning even thinking about the current Honda range.

They have about half a dozen different commuter bikes all of which reduce my sperm count just by existing.

They need to be bold. You can see they were halfway there with the Africa twin but then shat out at the last minute.

I've got a 2012 Fireblade and it uses no measurable amount of oil. It handles like a dream, has brakes that seem to defy physics and while it's 175 bhp may seem weedy by the standards of the latest crop of sports bikes it would take a rider way better than me to get it anywhere near its true potential on the road. It has no traction control but it does have Hondas C-ABS which in spite of reports of problems, I've always found it absolutely superb. Great bike Wink

Nah, they want to race it so it'll be a mental hyperbike like everyone else's.

Like they've done with the existing fireblade (since they made the fugly one); which seems to be exactly what you're looking for?
If you look at power graph, it generally beats the twins for midrange power.
An easy to use boring commuter that doesn't have the top end an gizmos of it's competition, but does have commuter favourites like combined brakes?

Make an affordable RCV with 800cc. Make it simple and light.

Something like, say, the Valkyrie?

I'd like them to do a super commuter, sort of Deauville+ or Pan Lite, with shaft drive and a punchy engine, maybe VFR800 based.

Honda oly make good bikes by accident. If they do, they then either stop making them or spend the next 10 years engineering them into something much more boring.

There are many examples.

That's good to hear. The two fireblade forums I've been on are absolutely overflowing with complaints about oil consumption and how Honda in both the US and UK have done bugger all about it.

I love the way it looks. Had a sit on one and it fits like a dream. desperate to go on a ride on one.

That's a Honda NM4, just as ugly, but different.

I still can't quite understand why GTA5 has bikes based on both the DN-01 and the NM4 (Dinka Thrust, Dinka Vindicator respectively). Do the yanks love them?

Possibly an early fireblade if you viewed it in relation to it's competition.

Generally I'd say they engineer in boring-but-capable from the start.

The sin of the current fireblade is the price, its gone up at an inflation busting rate wth no major updates since 2009. I know its had incremental updates of forks and brakes etc.. but still the same frame and engine.

On the ride and handling side though its a sublime bike, it makes riding fast on the road easy because its so competent. People seem to mistake competence for boring but thats so far from the truth. Even when it was released it was down on power to its rivals but still won the group tests and lap times on ride and handling alone.
correct me if i'm wrong but this bike was still winning TT's up until last year with Bruce Anstey?

I ran one for 10k miles and took it all the way to slovenia and back and it never flinched, I had no oil issues at all in that time but am aware that many others have.

I have to confess to not having ridden one of the latest breed of elctronic tamed bikes so in that respect i cant make a comparison.

The grom is quite a daring bike from Honda. I think it looks really cool and looks immensely fun (have yet to ride one).

The CBR250 I have at the moment is quite fun although it's not a fun bike. What is fun about it is that it's so slow in comparison to a sports bike that you have keep the throttle pinned open everywhere you go and you can throw it into corner without ever feeling like you're going to fall off despite the aweful aweful suspension

I actually do think that maybe character is a sum of something's faults, and this is perhaps the problem with Honda, generally speaking. They are too refined, do things too well, without standing out from the crowd. The bikes I have had most fun on have often been a royal pain in the arse to live with (Fazer excepted Mr. Green ). I used to think of Kawasaki as being brutal and rough round the edges for instance. The Street Triple has a similar feel, and certainly made my backside miserable after 200 miles, but it's character comes from the hooligan tendency it brings out in me.

Funny how so many look for the perfect bike, but when they find it, they still aren't happy Thinking

The bike is true to it's roots, it designed to be the fastest it can be for a reasonable consumer price. It's designed to be a platform for racing, it's designed to be bought by people who want to the same bike as John McGuinness/Nicky Hayden Etc.

What you want is an old fireblade, plenty around.

CB250 K1. Still the fastest superdream.

CB750.

CB125 T1.

NSR400/

H100 basic commuter bike doing wheelies must have come as a surprise.

I'd imagine they'll be putting a stop to the Grom quite soon.

It'll need linked brakes, at least. And OBD, anti-tamper, nanny chip (defeat device defeater). Urgh, will anyone even bother?
