I keep seeing these "Zuru straps" well received by many people but damn they're expensive. Rok straps are mentioned as fiddly and slow. Cargo nets do not seem secure at all. It's just to secure a 50L waterproof bag to the CBR

8 straps for £24.99 = expensive? No pleasing some people. I guess that's the Pound Shop world we live in for you.

Poundland bungee straps have always been fine for me, or slightly more expensive spider ones from somewhere else.

Sir, you go too far! One does not love luggage straps!

Or maybe there's some kind of weird, perverted use I have yet to discover? Thinking

For my ortlieb roll bag I use a couple of cam straps.
I have a couple of drawstring pouches sewn on to hold the excess webbing, which also act as storage pouches.

If you want a heavy bag (10+kg) securely attached to the bike, don't use elastic straps - use cam straps, this style - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01C8TM2HO - I use a 5 meter one looped around a roll bag 4 times, once either end and twice diagonally, attached to grab handles / other strong points.

Lighter stuff like waterproofs can be attached on top / over with elastic cargo webbing etc.

It will take 5 minutes to strap up luggage in the morning, it's not a quick-on quick-off solution. But it's great for sporty riding while touring. No risk of any movement while throwing the bike around curves, or 150 mph on autobahn.

I also bring one or two with my scooter should I need to secure something bigger that isn't perfect for one of my elastic hook straps. For example, carrying a stack of two tyres and two wheels to the tyre change place for a cheaper swap - a couple of 2.5m cam straps is ideal, one on each side. Works better on a scooter than a bike, with the wider flatter seat contiguous with the top box mount plate.

Obviously something non-compressible will probably be better attached with elastic, otherwise you risk damaging it.

Wish I had some decent straps instead of bungees. Just loaded my bike in the dark ready for the Helmsley bash this weekend and I suspect I'll be doing it again in the morning....

I've managed the last 7 years with a cargo net just fine. The same cargo net in fact. I've even carried things like bread makers, microwaves etc on the back using the cargo net and they have not moved.

I use rok straps in my shed to hang bulky stuff from the wall/roof. I'm sure they would be great for their proper use.

I use rok straps but they are fucking liars. You will not even secure a 20kg load let alone a claimed 40kg load with the larger ones. They have too much give, so the load will bounce over bumps.

For best results I combine them with a camlock strap

Anyone know any shops that would sell Cam straps?

I'm looking for a strap to go round a roof box for that just in case factor. Don't want the missus' granny pants flying out and covering someones windscreen.

I've tested them at speeds of above 100mph holding a kayak to the roof ( on a closed runway obviously, definitely not the m1) They'll easily hold a bag to your bike
