Hello BCF friends!
So about 3 years ago I had a stupid spill. It was early in the morning, second junction on my way to work, combination of things from what I remember - slight fumble of the clutch, not quite woken up, cold tyres, poor road condition - but I lost the back end at about 5-10mph and went over ending up with a couple of cracked ribs and a really bad groin strain which meant a week with a zimmer and a month or so with a stick.
The GSXR1000 got a smashed engine cover resulting in full oil loss and a worn down crash bung but was otherwise unaffected. Thankfully nobody else was involved.
Anyways the wife made me agree that I was done with bikes and I sold the gixxer to my brother and bought an E46 M3 instead and have been trying to fill the void that bikes left with fast cars since. Currently driving a supercharged 350Z but even with 460bhp it is still no bike and after 3 years in the darkness I have finally given in to the devil on my shoulder and put a deposit down on yet another ZX9R - this will be my 5th, and an F model which completes the set for me having previously owned 2 Bs, a C and an E.
Going to be picking it up later in the week or maybe next weekend. Need to sort myself out with new gloves, lid and boots and insurance first. Will obviously be taking things very easy for a while. Also going to look to get myself some form of advanced tuition too to make sure i keep the chance of repeat mistakes to a minimum!
Anyways, just thought I'd say hello. Looking forward to getting in the saddle and being a part of the biking community again ____________________ Harold_Shand wrote: I suppose it's like anything, you get your fingers burned when you start out, you learn from it and eventually become a complete arsehole about the whole thing. |

Congrats!
I'd be interested in your thoughts of the E model ZX9R, compared to the GSXR1000. Did you find it any more fun/exciting, and was it worth the extra running costs?
I'm considering going from an E1 to a litre bike (early R1s, ~K2 GSXR1000s, or even looking at 12R and busa). |

Cant really compare the two I'm afraid. My E1 was probably my favourite bike so far. Had a nice Penske shock, reworked forks, uprated brakes, tasty sounding stubby. The GSXR K3 was a bit tired and blobby by comparison and I didnt do too many miles on it before i came off.
That said I have never found 9Rs to be lacking in power. Sure, by comparison much newer machines are obviously in a totally different league now but for the money I think they are great all rounders. I don't think the step up to a similarly aged thou would be that much of a leap really.
I love 9Rs an I'm not afraid to admit it! ____________________ Harold_Shand wrote: I suppose it's like anything, you get your fingers burned when you start out, you learn from it and eventually become a complete arsehole about the whole thing. |
