So, as the title says.

I was still quite nervous but, got though it this time with 2 ride faults. Not sure what they were as I stopped listening after the words "you've passed". Laughing

It was a close call as I goofed and left my documents at the training place and it only registered just as we were entering St Helens, having rode from Aintree. Embarassed

Thankfully, one of the other instructors ran them up to me at the test centre.

Now to book mod 2. So relieved that farce of a test (mod 1) is behind me. Dance!

Thanks guys Thumbs Up

Havintage problems posting at the moment, as my phone'so gone a bit funny. I think it's got a bit damp, as I got soaked through by rain.

Will be booking mod 2 in the next day or two. Although, that one should be relatively easy. Famous last words, I know.

You ride around an enclosed tarmacked huge square space for fifteen minutes while the examiner wears a hi vis swinging his junk in the trunk around in circles watching you perform different maneuvers. Another hoop to get through and fairly pointless.

£15 I think the DVLA get for each Mod 1 test.. given the cost my local instructor told me regarding how much it cost for the brand new tarmac surface for the entire pad I think it might be around for some time before they can recoup their costs.

Congrats. Thumbs Up

They keep making noises about doing away with test centres and starting tests from Halfrauds car parks and similar.

DfT did a pilot on getting rid of the mod 1 offroad section after Mike "the bike" Penning sodded off the 50kph/31mph hard limit on the speed sections while he was at the DfT, meaning that it could be done legally in 30mph limits.

The Sir Humphreys scuppered it though because it was too much work and risk for DVSA Derek to put cones down on the road. Why he had to do so is a mystery, since the 3DLD is pretty thin on the details of what actually needs to be tested. Derek could just say "get up to 30mph then swerve round that manhole cover and don't fall off or die".

When practicing for my Mod 1 we did it on an industrial estate, because you had to pay to use the pad (cheap course/even cheaper school). It was a little annoying having cars run over the cones, and the surface wasn't great either...

Congrats Dave, now get Mod 2 done Cool

This is largely what I think tbh.

The U turn: For a start, most folks wouldn't attempt to do one in that space and if they did, they would probably tap a foot down.

Walking the bike backwards from one box to another. WTF is that all about? Laughing

The slalom: When are you ever going to do that on the road and you not have po po pull you for riding like a dick? Same with the figure of 8 too, I suppose.

Basically, I don't see what was wrong with the old bike test and why don't car drivers have to perform these circus tricks?

I must admit that I hated the mod 1 with a passion but, job's jobbed and now for mod 2. Thumbs Up

Bodyguard will be along shortly to tell us how easy it's and how he's the greatest. I agree, completely pointless, why not just have the estop and swerve test. I don't see how any of the slow speed stuff makes you safer on the road.

Anyway stop moaning, you had your chance to get an IoM license Wink

It's just basic bike skills but you'd be surprised how many people would struggle to do a figure of 8 in that area.

Did you pass first time? You said you got 2 faults so you can't have aced it. Very Happy

ABS, cages and airbags largely absolve them of responsibility for their oopsies.

They murder up a pedalist or footist and the cry goes out "More safety measures! More protection for vulnerable road users!"

Spazz a biker though and it's "bikey needed more training".

It's was my third attempt. Embarassed Shifty

I really struggled with nerves tbh, which used to be very out of character for me, until the past couple of years. I'd be absolutely fine in practice but, as soon as I'm at the test centre with an examiner, it's a whole other story. Being tensed up for the U turn really isn't a favourable situation.

I've remembered one of my faults, I stalled on the emergency stop. Still don't know what the other was.
