So I completely forgot to chase up the V5 for my GSXR. I have the new keeper slip, a receipt of sale and did have tax until recently.

Now it appears the PO has received tax reminders and recently forwarded them my address, but I've not received anything from the DVLA at all.

So, what do? Thinking

I need to approach this in the correct way as the bike is currently untaxed, without MOT and shortly the insurance is up. No SORN obviously.

FWIW the bike hasn't moved from the shed since last Autumn.

Any advice on how to get the V5 without incurring any 'costs' would be gratefully received.

ta Mr. Green

if you have the new keeper slip, you can apply for the V5 from the DVLA at no charge. can't remember the number of the form, but im sure a quick google will throw it up Thumbs Up

How's that going to stop them losing it? All you can do is prove that they received something.

But yes, V62 and wait 6 weeks. Sad times. Sad

Point of order, why are you able to pay VED as the new keeper, if DVLA never record that change of keeper? Thinking

So say we all.

Next time I buy a vehicle I'm going to take a picture or note of the V5C number then do the change of keeper online myself rather than trust the seller.

You may be able to do the change of keeper online, which would be free and not involve paper forms or posting anything. Try that first.

I believe you need the number from the full V5C for that. Hmm, is that a subset of the number from the V5C/2 new keeper slip? I don't have one to hand to check.

I don't think it is, Roger. I've just declared my Impreza as sold to a trader and I took down all the numbers before he left. I don't have them with me at work but I'm pretty certain I'd remember writing down the same number twice, even in part.

It is but has an extra no either at the beginning or end can't remember which now tho. I'd just try it online and miss the last digit off see what happens.

Damn, wish I'd looked at home last night. It'd be weird if it is though, unless I'm going slightly batshit...

Confirmed: the 11 digit document number on the front of the V5C appears to be just the 12 digit number from the V5C/2 new keeper slip with the first digit missing.

DIY it online for great justice.
