Today on my ride the speedo cable came loose from the front wheel and the inner cable must have come out on the road. i only noticed at a service station when davo asked if my speedo was working, me saying not that i had noticed only to see the cable was detached Embarassed
anyway phoned up my local bike shop and there getting one ordered in, probably get in on weds (also get some thread lock!!!). anyway i want to ride, but just say i get stopped by the coppers (not for speeding) is it illegal to ride without a working speedo? i know its an MOT failure.
Cheers
WN

i also need to know this, since my cable sheered off, i've been riding with a broken rev counter and speedo, with no fairings, as i dropped it.

I think it is illegal to ride/drive without a working speedo in MPH.

I know I looked into this when I had (and still have, on the GN) a KMPH Speedo.

Technically it is a breach of construction and use regulations but it is highly unlikley that a copper would actually check your speedo. He would have to have been sent to the spare room by his wife for the last fortnight to book you for it.

nope, you're right, it's not tested in an MOT.

Hi

The police could do you for the non working speedo, if they notice (so do not use it as an excuse for speeding unless you are feeling really lucky).

Do not reset the trip meter, as having that reading 000.0 is a bit of a giveaway.

All the best

Keith
