I'm off to look at a 2000 Ducati 996 , what would be the one thing to check , I'll go over it and look at what I know but this is all new to me .
Always wanted one , don't need one , maybe 500 miles a year haven't got the space but I don't care .

Any idea what sort of mileage from a tank ?

Thank you in advance .

Chris

Error yeah , I just did a quick insurance quote without my NCB on compare the market , £9,302,20 !

Would a 916 or 748 be a better choice in terms of running , servicing or faults ?

Thank you

It depends on your level of mechanical ability. Keeping a Ducati doesn't need to be expensive provided you do your own servicing.

I'm judging from your post that your inexperienced. It's rare for someone that's about to buy a Ducati to ask the mpg. depends how you ride but 50mpg would be achievable riding at speed limits

The 996 is not the sorta bike for beginner's get a cb500 or something. The riding position is cramped, it's probably a bit lumpy around town. it demands smooth flowing roads with lots of corners. You need to know that you like this style of bike. It's a twin and a lot of people are used to screaming i4s they don't quite get the appeal of them.

Things to look out for would be service history it's harder to do the shims on the 4v testsastretta engine, cracked fairings, Grabby clutches.

Here's a link of what to look out for. Not all these problems happen to the 996 just what can happen.

Ducatis can be cracking bikes with an bit extra tlc.

500 miles a year, and you're asking about tank range? You may have to fill it up 5 times a year.

Making sure the belts were done recently is the usual thing to check on ducatis. They aren't hard to do though.

Ducati; they look pretty but they're no more sophisticated than Japanese bikes. I'd only buy one if I was in love with the look of the bike.

+1 for checking that the rubber bands have been done recently. You don't want to be doing them yourself just in order to put another 500 miles on it.

Thank you for the replies , I was asking about tank average range as I may be taking it to the Bol'dor at Paul Ricard in September .

The one I have in mind has had looked after we'll just got to sort a realistic insurance quote .

I do have a zx6r j1 , Honda cb250 and a beautiful ar125 .

Always adored that era of Ducati , I have the money so thought why not .

If it's a good clean and well looked after one, it should be a good addition to your fleet and very different from each other like your other bikes are.
