Dial the hipster down to about a 5 or a 6 and get a lid with a long visor. You can wear goggles as well if you like, just flip the visor up or even take it off for 5 minutes of summer. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

The fact you brought it up without prompting seems to suggest otherwise But why would you? Not like flip-fronts are a new invention.

It's so obvious, it's a wonder anyone had to point it out. Agreed.
You can't cruise at 70mph in the rain with an open face lid without it hurting. |

Couldn't give a fuck how I look, flip the front up in nice weather and close it in shit weather.
Job done. |
You'll find you aren't supposed to ride with it up. |
Depends on the Flp...

Shark Evoline; the chin-piece flips right over & is faired into the back for riding i the 'open' position, & approved for use (according to the sales blurb) in both configurations.
Tis my handy solution to the issue; visor can still be used in the open position, which is handy; and I'll confess; 'making progress' in less clement whether, does get flipped when it starts to 'sting' a bit, though more often when wind is making my eyes water.. usefully, it can be 'flipped' between open & full-face 'on-the-move', with barely any more faff that some Full-Face viror mechanism's are to open or close!

That's my traditional 'Open', and probably more often used TBH, easier to grab, stick on and carry, if I'm just popping to town or whatever; tend to just wear spex with it & keep the speeds down, as Stink & Shaggy suggest.. visor starts to offer a little 'lift' over about... err.... well.. sort of speeds wind makes my eyes water, anyway! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Thanks all for the ... um .. suggestions
I started with the open face because my return to biking (my 2nd) was with a little CD200(*) which wouldn't do 70 and a full-face racer helmet seemed like overkill ... but even at 50 it's not nice! It was my first open face lid and I found I like it, being out in the open air ... apart from the flies and the grit and the rain ... and I stuck with it because, as Tef says, its lighter and quicker and easier, specially for a specs wearer like me.
However ... I didn't say I was going to do 70 with just an open face, I said that with the balaclava I could do 70(ish!) without undue pain but that when the balaclava got soggy and almost airtight, the exhale fogged up my goggles...
... so now I think some kind of snorkel, as suggested up thread, is the next step.
(*) The CD200 is my one regret, I should never have let it go: I got almost nothing for it and I could have made shed space if I tried harder. ____________________ GP-100 -> CB250RS -> CBX550F2 (pause) KR1S -> RD350YPVS -> ZX6-R (pause) CD200 ->Mash 400 -> T100 (current) & (R1100RT scrapped pile o' shite) (CB250 Nighthawk - SORN in shed) Meteor 350 (current) |

I reckon that Shark lid posted above is a good compromise.
Riding with an open face lid is great though, I've got a tall screen on my bike so 70mph is no issue, lovely when the sun's out too. |
