Open face helmet in the rain

Once again I didn't pay proper attention to the weather forecast and wore my open face+goggles and was rained on, and once again it hurts. I tried with my (bought for the purpose) jersey balaclava underneath and that took the sting out - 70mph cruise without pain - but then the balaclava saturated, my breath went up and fogged my goggles so I had to stop and go back to pain.

And so the question - can anyone recommend a "get home without hurting" for this? That isn't a) "Wear a full-face", because I do when I know it's going to rain, or b) "Man up and ignore the pain" because that's not the point.

Be better at guessing rain.

Check if its possible to get pinlock goggles.

Use waterproof balaclava or binbag on head.

Wrap helmet in clingfilm with breathe holes and fit a hoover to your bike to suck out the moisture from inside helmet.

Personally, I think the last one would look pretty cool.

Dial the hipster down to about a 5 or a 6 and get a lid with a long visor. You can wear goggles as well if you like, just flip the visor up or even take it off for 5 minutes of summer.

Couldn't give a fuck how I look, flip the front up in nice weather and close it in shit weather.

Whilst sheltering from a giant rain storm in Corfu on my DR350 I saw a local on a big jap bike fly past with no helmet at all. I now know that the correct way to do this is to use your left hand in a permanent salute position.

Thanks all for the ... um .. suggestions

I started with the open face because my return to biking (my 2nd) was with a little CD200(*) which wouldn't do 70 and a full-face racer helmet seemed like overkill ... but even at 50 it's not nice! It was my first open face lid and I found I like it, being out in the open air ... apart from the flies and the grit and the rain ... and I stuck with it because, as Tef says, its lighter and quicker and easier, specially for a specs wearer like me.

However ... I didn't say I was going to do 70 with just an open face, I said that with the balaclava I could do 70(ish!) without undue pain but that when the balaclava got soggy and almost airtight, the exhale fogged up my goggles...

... so now I think some kind of snorkel, as suggested up thread, is the next step.

(*) The CD200 is my one regret, I should never have let it go: I got almost nothing for it and I could have made shed space if I tried harder.

I have an AGV Compact flip up, it's approved for use in both the flip up and locked down position and gives me the best of both worlds. when filtering or pootling round town on a sunny day i'll flip it up. As soon as I get to around 40ish or start belting it i'll lock it down.

Looks ridiculous sure, but I plan to go touring so it'll be useful there.

I often wear an open face trials type, I dip my head forward a bit and the peak keeps the rain off my face, I slow down though. I rarely ride over 50mph on my trail bikes anyway,
