So the poop is hitting the fan and things may not go my way.

My question is I started work at my company way back in 1999, in a different role to my current one, I moved to job b, then to job c which has since been re-graded, more pay different title.

Does statutory redundancy start in 1999 or when I started job c?

Ta.

if you are still employed by the same employer, redundancy starts from day you started. The fact that they have moved you sideways, upwards or downwards means nothing.

Depends, did you get a different contract when you changed roles? Did you sign anything?

Same company, just different roles.

Don't recall signing anything.

Sorry to hear that.
I've had it a few times (all from places I've worked really hard at, but never from the places I've put less effort in at) and can only say that sometimes it leads to better things.

You've been a full time employee since 1999.

I can't remember the requirements but I think they'll have to offer you consultation with a specialist 'employment' solicitor and he'll tell you what their minimum must be.
Hopefully they'll offer some special deal (read as 'hush money').

The poop hasn't hit the fan yet, just a number (figure) of jobs have been announced as part of a cost saving.

No specific roles have been identified as yet.

I'm just making sure I understand my position correctly, someone I know was made redundant and yet she told me the law limits it to 10 years, a .gov site states 20. (not going to ask my HR department this, that would be foolish, hahahaha)

Rather be prepared than bury my head in the sand like a lot of my colleagues seem to be doing.

TBH I'm nearly 40 and to not have been made redundant yet must be a miracle.

Why? It's what they're there for.

It is.

If you think that your job is in any danger, I'd get something else lined up pronto.

Then once you've done that, I'd seriously consider approaching your current HR / management and asking to be considered for voluntary redundancy, especially if they choose to pay you more than the statutory minimum.

In my experience, once a company start laying people off, it rarely recovers. The first people out the door are often the lucky ones - I've been axed, or rolled out from under it many times, and each time I've ended up in a better job.

Best of luck.

Consultation - if more than 20 employees are being made redundant.

Job changes - doesn't matter if you signed a new contract or not after changing roles, it's about continuous employment.

Voluntary redundancy - Roger is bang on with this. if you can line something up before it all kicks off then approach HR and negotiate VR. Chances are they may even ask people about VR before they begin redundancies.
