Im gonna take a different route, new powerplant on my bike.

Currently the 125cc engine isnt quite enough, I know ill get bored of the extra 125cc pretty quick, but I love my bike (even if I dont show it by dumping it and not giving it the TLC it deserves), and instead of getting rid of it I want to keep it and uprate it a bit.

Right, can you guys tell me (other than the paperwork) what Ill need to do to get a 250cc engine into my GZ. Currently Suzuki sell a GZ250 in the states, and the spec (appart from running gear and engine) is exactly the same as the 125cc version. See here for US and here for UK.

So, is it as simple as removing the engine, placing the new one back in, connecting all the bits and bobs back in, or is it something more complex than that?

Can anyone shed some light on this for me,

thanks for any help guys!

The ignition and electrics might not be exactly the same, but other than that, if it fits into the mounts I can't see too many problems (not having done something like that myself). Even if it doesn't fit into the mounts, bodgery works wonders. Smile

Oh, there is one problem of course... Your insurance company are going to love you for it! Laughing

Yeah, it becoming a custom bike of course.

Still, its only an extra 125cc. Considering what I have been quoted for insurance on 500cc plus, it will still end up cheaper. Ive been quoted for a GS500 over £1250 TPO! I know I can get it down further than that, but Id prefer to bide my time with a 250 for a year, or two than spend uber cash on something bigger.

What are the taxation levels on CC for a bike? Would a 250 be anymore than the £15/year that a 125 is?

Anything over 150cc is at least £30.

So, no technical answers to this question then?

It may be fairly simple, it may be very complicated. If they're the same basic frame it shouldn't be too hard.

However in the majority of cases it comes out more expensive than selling up and getting a similar bike with a bigger engine as standard.

I doubt you'll get that much extra power by the way, maybe just over 50% if you're lucky.

For technical details, unless you can find some one that's done it before, you are going to have to suck it and see.

Modified bikes often attract big premiums for younger riders.
If you were quoted £1250 TPO on a gs500, I suggest you try somewhere else, as that seems way to high.
