first post.....
Really need to vent some frustration.

Horrible scumbag stole my bike on Saturday.
Was trying to be pragmatic about it all...

However today i called Carole Nash to ask them to transfer my insurnace to a new bike. they tell me they cant.
I say ok cancel the insurance then and they want to charge me £50

furious.

Yup, because the policy has been activated, the payout has occurred and there is no longer an asset to insure meaning there is no policy to transfer.

more info needed:

Did you claim for the stolen bike?
If so then as Andy has said, the policy is ended at payout.


Is the new bike similar to the old bike or have you gone from 125cc to buying a 600cc?

Some underwriters specialise in certain types of bike, such as 125cc / Chinese bikes etc - if the underwriter doesn't cover your new bike under their usual terms of the policy then there is little Carole Nash (the broker in your case) can do with the policy.


How long is left on the policy?

Was it paid in full at the time of taking out the insurance or were you paying monthly?

You don't need to cancel it - the policy will cease when they pay out. If they do try to hit you up with a bill or withold it from your payout, I'd be in with a complaint early doors: https://www.carolenash.com/terms/complaints-procedure

i have not claimed for the first bike as my insurance was third party only.given the value of the bike (125 scooter) i would not have claimed anyhow.

I changed from the 125 to a Honda CBF600 and they said the were unable to make the change as *their system* would not allow for it and i would have to take out a whole new policy.
This apparently is par for the course with Carole Nash.

there is 5 months left on the insurance and it was paid in full.
it costs me nothing to let the insurance expire but they want to charge me £5 to cancel it.

i have now gone with MCE who charge me less for the CBF than Carole Nash charged for the for the 125

still you live and lean.

If you want a laugh, search MCE on here and see what splendid reviews they've received.

It's pretty common for insurers to use specific underwriters for 125's which mean you then can't insure anything over that capacity on the same policy.

Yup, all standard stuff. Have you perhaps got one of those MCE "never pay policies" where the excess exceeds the value of the bike?

Even though you haven't claimed, you've still suffered a loss that needs to be declared. Sad

The other alternative would have been to tell them that you no longer have the bike, which is completely true, if not the complete truth.

Indeed, and a pikey is likely to stack your hack.

Be sure that you can produce free proof of posting for the letter that you totally sent them confirming the phone conversation that you definitely had.

So why was I able to transfer my insurance after my FZ was stolen and paid out for AD keep my no claims bonus?

Some companies have better terms than others.

There used to be a company years ago who were very competitive for car policies for 17 year olds. Except hidden in small writing in the terms and conditions was a requirement that the driver was always accompanied by a driver over (I think) 25.

What do you mean by this ?
i called the police and reported the ped stolen the same day.
i called Carole Nash to let them know the bike had been stolen and all they wanted to know is if i wanted to make a claim or do i want to cancel the insurance, i said neither at that time i just wanted to let them know.

not sure who else i need to tell.

Seems unfair.
i would hope that as the ped was stolen its clear the rider has not got my permission to ride it.

i can tell you the insurer was Equity Red Star as thats what it says on the policy.

Concerning MCE

I'm not too fussed as the CBF while a nice clean model is not an expensive bike.
my intention would be to run it for a year or two to build up my no claims and until we move to a place with a garage so i can lock a bike up over night.

i really like the look of the MT07 Yamaha.

if i was to get a nice bike and was happy to pay a higher premium.
Who are the insurer's that are considered to be a bit better ?

certain policies only cover a 125cc bike it will be in the small print if this is what you had

equity do insure bigger bikes as I was with them

Yes, that. They ask if you've had any claims or losses. You've had a bike stolen, it's in the system now, and you'll be expected to declare it.

Might count significantly against you, might not, but the less you tell insurers, the less you generally have to regret later.

So complain. don't let them resolve unless they waive the fee. Cost to them to go to FOS (win or lose) is far more than £50.

well i got a voice mail from an officer saying the bike has been found.
i rang 101 asking for the office to call me back.

no idea of the condition of the bike.
its only a couple of miles away.
apprehensive to see what the toerags have done to it.

I suppose if i get it back then i don't have to worry about anyone else riding it and me having liability.

seems all a bit wrong that i as the innocent party should get screwed over by the system.
