So I currently have Broadband with BT but it's in my mums name (I pay for it), 12 month contract has come to an end and the price has gone up to £19 a month Shocked Never paid that f**king much for Broadband...

Anyhoo they currently have a fibre sale on that's for new customers only, so if I was to sign up under my name and cancel the internet etc. under my mums, would they immediately see what was going on and stop it?

An internet search tells me yes, but as always I want BCF's opinion Wub

I would ask if they can match the price first, had to do that with VM. They acted like they were doing me a favour really, even though my mother's been a customer for 15+ years. So they applied a loyalty discount to match the new customer one. Worth a try.

Well my tactic used to be calling up and asking for the MAC code (no longer needed), and saying nothing else. They'd normally try fairly hard to keep you. No way am I going to grovel to BT, they're a $hit company, I didn't want to go with them before but my mum wanted to keep the landline with BT so we had limited options.

Now she seems open to leaving, although looking at deals they don't seem that competitive (compared to what I've paid in the past).

You can do what you're asking. But bear in mind that changing a name on the account usually involves ceasing the actual services (Telephone, Broadband) and re-providing them. This in theory should all take place on the same day, but if anything goes wrong, could end up leaving you without service for a couple of days/ weeks.

BT site wouldn't let me place a new order (on the same number). Gonna call up and see what they're willing to do, if it's not enough leave.

Talktalk have fibre for £5 a month, but I've heard bad things about them, and their site looks like it was coded by a 15yr old on work experience.

We had a nightmare with talk talk

Cancelled contract went to BT

12 months or so on we get a knock at the door

It's bailiffs collecting for talk talk

Apparently we owe them 12 months rent for broadband
Got rid of them and phoned talk talk

Someone had reactivated our account without us knowing and had been charging us for a connection we hadn't been using

It all got dropped after and we where not charged anything but still hot our credit score

BT's best offer (for fibre): £15 on a 2 year contract, when they're currently offering new customers £10.99 on a 12 month.

Folded arms

EE are £9.95 for 18 months, only thing's they have a fair usage policy, which I hope doesn't mean no (or painfully slow) streaming/DL'ing during peak times.

The company that I work for (well, for another 3 weeks, anyway) do standard broadband for a tenner (unlimited - normal price but there may be offers) and fibre for £20 (same again, may be offers). I worked for BT before here, and they have always been expensive.

Shop around. Most companies have a portability agreement in place which means that you can set up a new account in your name with someone else and keep your telephone number.

BT phoned back today, told them I was leaving for EE, and they matched them (£10 p/m for unlimited infinity 1 (18 month contract)). Tried to sell me infinity 2 but wasn't interested Smile Just shows their best price's never their best price...
