Hi

I've got my practical test next week. Already passed the theory and hazard perception Very Happy . I know that you have to do a U-turn & emergency stop, but do you have to filter through traffic etc?

Don't filter.

You could easily fail for doing something while filtering, but you can't really get failed for not filtering.

Play it safe.

I agree with you there! I intend to sit contently in any traffic. Its just that a couple of fellas I was talking to at the weekend said that they both had to filter on their tests, and I had never heard of that before.

No need,

when sitting stationary theres very little you can fail for (unless you do something dumb).

Whereas when moving theres alot more you have to do/not do.

Thats why takin tests in rush hours can actually be better for some people, since you spend about half the time sitting doing buggerall waiting for traffic to move.

Filterings a grey area as it is, so i would avoid it on test.

Though I would agree with most of the "Don't Filter" stuff, as the chance of you making a test failing mistake is a lot higher, just remember if there is LOADS of traffic, that the examiner does have to see you do a set number of things in the test (Inc. U-Turn, etc.), so if your stuck in traffic for 20 minutes, and your examiner only has 30 minutes for each test, they can call it off.

Its not a fail, but its near as damnit as good (Well.. Bad) as one.

5 Day Course
For the beginner at least five days training is essential. If, having taken your Part 2 test, you fail, all further tuition is *FREE*

This is my test centre were i will be taking it, When it say's further tuition is free is that like a extra day? Thumbs Up

Do you not need to "make good progress" though?

Yeah but thats more in relation to holding other traffic up. Say going along in a 40 at 30 causing cars to group up behind you by holding them up.

If your sitting in a line of traffic, (i.e cars in front and behind) then you are not holding up the car behind you.. the rest of the traffic is. So you cant fail for sitting behind a line of traffic (unless its parked Very Happy )

I have heard that if you take your test in London you have to filter or you will fail. Not sure how truthful that is though.

I'm taking my test in Havering, which is Essex, but still the 'London Borough of Havering'. I'll check with an instructor when I start my DAS as its not far off now.

Cheers

your best bet if you are unsure on filtering is to ask the examiner beforehand. The examiner will not bite your head off for asking him a question. The he may ask you to filter if you consider it necessary, so long as you follow highway code. Or he may tell you to on your test.
I wouldnt take it on yourself to filter though, i was told by my instructors not to filter before my test.

So in summary if you are unsure of ANY grey area, just ask the examiner beforehand. Most of them are nice enough and as they do more car tests then bike ones they are glad to get out there!

This is entirely correct and is happening at Croydon test centre at the moment. It's not designed for bike tests there!
