They've been doing it for years with pet foods. Puppies! Kittens! Junkies!

I'll bet any money (after Brexit hyper-inflation) that they throw out more perfectly edible food than they ever get donated.

Interesting.

Does it mean you can give a shopping list to your local foodbank and they'll get someone to buy it for you?

I'd tell them to go out the back into the yard and point out in clear view why their the problem that they are trying to tackle. Bin full after bin full on a daily basis of food being thrown away because "reasons and policy."

The reasons for throwing food away become silly. Supermarkets are adamant on throwing away and don't even boost profit by selling it to staff because, and again, "reasons.. we're not allowed to."

A gentleman must purchase his consumables from a respectable business.

I say, the house port at Waitrose get one pissed as a plum

Tally ho...

If you're needing to visit a food bank, you'll be grateful for whatever they can provide.

You're not under any obligation to donate to charity, and if the biggest problem you had to deal with that day was a member of staff talking to you, I envy you.

Hopefully you'll never be in a position to need to rely on a food bank from the other side.

You should tell Tesco about those reasons because they may not be aware.

I'm sorry, but I simply don't believe this bullsh1t. "We're so poor we have to use food banks". Yeah and effing drive there.

Do you work at a food bank? Or just man the car park? Otherwise, how on earth do you know how people travel to them?

Not everybody has the luxury of choosing where their money goes. Some food bank users will have cars, that they use to get to their jobs, which they use to keep a roof over their families heads and the lights on.

I presume all of these people using food banks have already knocked the fags, booze, Sky TV, mobile, car and take away food on the head first?

Indeed

Food is cheap as chips in this country. I could make a lasagne which would easily feed 8 for less than £7.00. I regularly make a large one from Aldi's 800g pack of mince (£2.70) and freeze the other 7 portions cut and wrapped when cold.

And if you don't have £7.00, what can you make?

The hard of thinking like to paint those less fortunate then themselves as somehow playing life on easy mode. If it's such a great life, why not quit your job/reduce your working hours, give away all of your savings and you, too, could enjoy all of that free food!

Maybe but that's not what I'm asking and you seem to be confusing "needing" with "eligible".

As it is, the fact I'd be given a load of Tesco Value stuff which I don't want makes it a lot easier to decide if I should accept free stuff or not.

Loads and loads of people who are eligible don't really need the free stuff they get from a food bank.

A bunch of them were in my "local", all huddled round the bottom of the elevators waiting to pounce on their next victim - as I shimmied past, one of the old ladys handing out stuff gave me a smile - BAM , right in the feels Laughing .

In all seriousness , I do think there's a place for this somewhere - just not by a store entrance pestering people who are (mostly) just trying to get on with their day.

If I want to help I will be in touch - don't hand me a shopping list expecting me to do your shopping, k thanks bye Middle Finger

Oh really? And how much diesel money could they have saved if they walked there? Enough to make the 8 person Lasagne?

Better life choices on what I spend my money on.

In practice, food is so cheap in this country that nobody should go hungry. Anyone who uses a food bank out of necessity needs to prioritise better. Unfortunately, we have a whole group of gimmedat's in society, who will use food banks to free up dole money for other uses.

This is why the idea of putting dole money on a debit card which could not be used for anything but food, caused such an outcry from the great unwashed. One comment on Radio 2 was "it's my wages, i'll spend it on what I want".

Ladies and gentlemen, the "me me me" generation summed up in a nutshell.

Oh its not the people on benefits to blame, its the people that shipped their jobs to China to increase profit margins that are to blame. If the only industries are cafes and care homes then you have a problem.

Tesco is really just part of the problem and stunts like these are what I expect from them.

We have a problem if Britons turn their noses up at working in them, and we end up importing swarms of Latvians and Laotians.

Amongst our many I-blame-society issues lurks that of overly inflated expectations.

You're looking at it from the wrong direction. People working in care homes should not be just any JSA claimant off the street, it takes the right kind of person. Most of these people should be working in factories, and the lack of factories is the problem here. It's also evident in how much crap we import from China. Working in a factory probably isn't a high expectation.
