Need some new boots and for my budget I have seen these. I like the styling of the Ghostbikes ones but I'm new to riding so not sure on the quality, whereas the Richa ones have good feedback. Not sure the Richa ones go high enough up the shin for me. What would you prefer?

the ghostbikes ones are ok, but i would take the waterproof bit with a pinch of salt - they're ok in drizzle, but not that great in a downpour. mine lasted me about 18 months before the soles got really worn and started to split.

not got any experience of the others.

The Richa ones are complete shit.

They'll stay waterproof for a week or 2 and then the flex zones on tongue and heel start cracking and let all the water in, then soon after that the "leather" of the actual boot will start losing the top layer letting more water in and looking like you've got them out of a bin.

All those reviews seem to have been posted when the people have worn them once or twice when they're still waterproof and comfy.

Gotta agree with tom_e I bought the Richa ones and had the exact same issues I no longer trust site reviews for waterproofing I just go goretex. My Merlin boots from Infinity have held up to their waterproofing claims though after 2 years.

I've got a few Black branded jackets and trousers, they're okay for the price but all started to leak eventually.

Glad I asked now,

Any recommendations for a similar or not too outrageous price? Must be waterproof, I suffer from cold hands and feet so overheating isn't a problem

Not sure about those Ghostbike ones, but these are going strong after about 3 years of heavy use for me. And they have been waterproof the entire time.

Black textiles and gloves in my experience are shit. Those boots have been quite the opposite.

I've found d with the cheap boots and gloves that they will be waterproof for the first 40 minutes of rain but then they'll start to leak.

There's not much gear out there (other than goretex) that will last for more than an hour riding in the pissing rain before it starts to leak somewhere.

Goretex is the way to go if you want peace of mind otherwise it's a bit of a gamble, my Merlin Explorer boots have stayed waterproof for the 2+ years I've had them so they may be an option if you're on a budget.

You get what you pay for. Cheaper is never going to be waterproof in 12 months. Been there, now have a pair of Goretex TCX still 100% after three years and many miles.

Alpinestar web goretex mine were £200 but you can get them cheaper than that now.

Extremely comfortable, practical, and goretex. You won't be dissapointed.

Another vote for Alpinestar Web Goretex....awesome boots, dry all day and comfortable as slippers. Over budget but well worth saving up!

Have a pair of TCX non-Gore-Tex boots. Had for over Two years now and still good. Wouldn't want to walk for a mile or few in them though.

You can get a pair of Sidi Black Rain without goretex for about £135. Sweaty as they're non breathable, but waterproof and good in an off (I tested both). My second uncrashed pair did well over 60k year round and never leaked.

I managed to get a set of goretex ones for not much more at tye bike show, but good luck with that.

Only waterproof gloves I ever found were Halvarssons ones. I'm in summers at the moment and almost constantly have dark blue hands from dye running...

Just to update on this, I thought they were until last week in a downpour they held up great until I stepped into a puddle.....Water got in through the soles.

I've now replaced with some Sidi st goretex

I need new boots. I've a pair of Oxtar and they are pretty much shot now. I can't find a new pair anywhere. Shame, I really liked the fit and look of them.

IMO, waterproof boots without goretex, well just aren't.

Isn't TCX just the rebrand of Oxtar?

Personally I would get a decent pair of leather boots and waterproof the leather.

British Army Goretx assault boots are superb. They cost a fraction of the cost of normal bike boots, fully waterproof and extremely hard-wearing. Supremely comfortable too, probably the most comfortable boots I've ever worn.

I've had these for 12000 miles, in the last year, and they have not let water in, no matter how hard it has been raining. Went through a couple of floods as well. Not bike boots but maybe worth considering.
