well not really, but good news for me. I've been offered a job as a student paramedic after getting super bored in engineering. YOLO etc.

Amusing ideas for handing in my notice pls.

Nice, congratulations.

What was your route in? Amberlamps technician, or back to school to do a degree?

Student paramedic scheme. You essentially do the tech course then work and learn for 2ish years then do the para course. Seems a good way to do it Very Happy

unpaid overtime? no thanks

I have just realised that after 5 years of friends and family asking me car questions because I'm an automotive engineer I can now look forward to being the go to guy for sore throats and stubbed toes instead...

What were you doing in engineering? What got boring?

I'm a month into my first engineering job as a design engineer for a robotics company. And ultimately I can see how it will get boring, but then it's not my intention to stay; I want to be in Motorsport.

yup, WMAS, I've been a CFR for about 3 months so I know a few paras and techs there already.

Haroman, I did a few different things as an engineer, prototype build, concept design/feasibility and tools and technologies. the latter is the reason I'm leaving as my current role is delivering CAD tools that can be used to design parts quicker with generic parameterised models and stuff. It's not got much urgency to it and it's just not particularly interesting. I'm a great concept engineer but there's no opportunities to go into that from my current role and it's not particularly well recognised in my company which is a bit galling.

When I worked on prototype build we did a project in conjunction with a big motorsports team and their ethos and way of working was amazing, I could do that again, people actually had a sense of urgency and got shit done rather than looking to pass stuff off so I would definitely look to go down that route if you can.

But yeah I'm mostly leaving because I just don't feel right in an office environment anymore, I can happily do 8 hours on a weekend in a responder car for free and enjoy myself, but doing 5 hours at work on Friday for good money kills me, may as well get paid for the stuff I enjoy and sack off the stuff I don't.

Also, if you pop into a shop (in uniform) before/after your shift, you'll be a magnet for lonely elderly people. There will be much talk of bunions, arthritis and piles.

Congrats on the new job. Very Happy

MD & author Dr. Richard Gordon apparently got so fed up with that he started telling people he was a pig farmer when they asked him what he did for a living.

You think she'd be aware of the dangers of accepting open drinks from strangers.

Nice one, Tristan, but never burn bridges. A couple of years of being bitten by bagheads at 3am and you might be pining for a white collar again.

it's ok, I get my hepatitis jabs on Friday Razz

yeah bridges are fully intact, I've spoken to my various managers and they all understand that I was probably heading off, and given the change my (very empathetic) senior manager said he wasn;t going to bother trying to talk me out of it but has said to call him personally if I need to come back.

Issue now is trying to actually get a C1 licence. It doesnt seem like it should be this hard but the places I've rung so far just haven't seemed interested in exchanging my money for their services
"do you have a referral to us from the job centre? Sorry I can't help you then"
"oh no we only let people do 5 day courses, there's no way the system will let you do less than that"
"I can put you on a course in October...?"
"no we can't offer you training until you've done the theory, it's the DVLA rules"
