Three bikers box in another biker on the A20 in Lewisham on April 24. They demand his keys but he doesn't hand them over. They give him lots of verbal abuse and ride off. The Met has released the video but there's no sound. It's all here: https://www.itv.com/news/london/2016-07-05/head-cam-video-shows-gang-chase-down-rider-box-him-in-and-try-to-steal-keys/

Says Plod:
Quote:
"At this early stage of the investigation, it is believed that three men chased a member of the public on their motorbikes and tried to collide with the rider whilst travelling at speed.

The three suspects blocked the victim off and attempted to take the keys out of the victim's motorbike after verbally threatening and abusing him.

Quote:
The suspects were very aggressive and their actions endangered the safety of other road users, the victim and pedestrians nearby."
The first suspect is described as white, aged in his late teens or 20s, wearing a black crash helmet, black balaclava, blue jeans, a black jacket with an 'OSX' logo printed on the right sleeve and black/white trainers. He was riding a grey Yamaha T-Max scooter.

The second suspect is described as a white man, of slim build, aged in his late teens or 20s. He was wearing all black bike gear and a black balaclava and riding a white Yamaha XJ6.

The third suspect is described as a white man, aged in his late teens or 20s, with blue eyes, an earring, a black Oxford jacket, a black balaclava, blue jeans and black boots. He was riding a black Triumph Street Triple motorbike.

The number plate on the white Yamaha is WU13 LFN and the DVLA site says it's for a white Yamaha 600.

The plate on the black Triumph is WA11 HTP and the DVLA site says it's for a white SORNed Triumph 675.

So was this an attempted bike jacking then, or just group road rage? A little surprising either way in broad daylight Shocked

Two and a half months after the fact. I guess they've exhausted all other lines of enquiry after an extensive investigation (read: biker has said "You useless twunts, I'm putting it on YouTube unless you release it").

No big deal, it's just that they didn't mention accents in the suspect descriptions either. I wonder what their assumptions are.

i suspect a 13mm/16mm bike chain might be useful for self defence and something that is perfectly reasonable to have on a bike.
if it has one of the Squire locks on the end all the better.

Hmmm...? Some arm waving with no physical contact, no attempt to snatch the keys and an unrecorded conversation. More likely a teenage tiff than an attempted robbery, dodgy plates notwithstanding. Wasting police time, perhaps.

Linky. German site, but UK ones all this red tape wanting you to provide proof that you're a service police officer and have permission to purchase by a superior officer and such.

Personally, I'm quite happy to be riding around with carbon fibre knuckledusters sewn into my gloves.

I was thinking the same thing, but then they have a bike to trace, and possible DNA evidence (but thieves aren't the smartest).

That's my assumption, but then I'm pretty racist. Also, lots of faffing around, I'd have thought they'd just get on with it.

It doesn't look like a planned, organised theft to me - there's the extra bike which has to be left at the scene, the rider isn't pushed over, the attempts to snatch keys seem a bit half-hearted. Three against one, they could easily have the bike if they really wanted. I reckon the local scrotes are just ganging up on a commuter because he criticised their riding at the lights or something.

Bike-jacking: not a local pattern, no bags, mono-ethnic (white, similar facial features with narrow nose and high cheekbones). Not out of shape or mixed enough to be locals. Gang using stolen bikes; can't be traced by reg. number.

Equipped for theft: cheap Lidl lids and balaclavas as disguise - too much armour on scooter guy just for a scooter in town. He expected maybe bodily impact (fall or fight) and riding away on a big bike. Body language at 0:23 is southern European or southern chav, in either case signalling running out of bottle. Plan was to use scooter man to steal camera man's bike. Only works if rider is knocked off and confused, or else there's a fight. Fight physics wouldn't give fast results, as everyone is on unstable bikes wearing helmets. Plan abandoned as physical fight over a stopped vehicle risks loss, and to help their man out would risk loss of valuable takings (Triumph and/or Yamaha).
