Well Rolling Eyes As most of you know i've had rotten luck when it comes to my bike test. The first time i was not ready, i admit that. The other two times were cancelled which kinda <Censored> me off. Then when i had my latest test i was a bag of nerves and failed.

I can ride, i can honest. My instructors say i ride easily above test standard, so i just need some advice from you all to get me through my test. Finally get onto my RVF legally (dont worry only ridden it on my drive).

Any tips? Anything?!?!? I WANNA PASS THIS TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers

G2f

Focus, try to forget about the pratt behind you. Have "fun", but don't to anything silly. Wink

You are good enough so you shouldn't doubt your abilities. Thumbs Up

It is only natural to feel more nervous the 2nd/3rd/4th time. I was the same. You can do it, so just prove to the instrutor you are as good you know you are. Smile

Do things slowly and in enough time to get things right, and not to make any silly mistakes.

Hi Andy, sorry to hear you didn't pass. Sad

The most important thing is to relax and try to enjoy it.

Took me 3 goes to pass, and the first two fails were for daft things (It's all around on other threads in this bit of the forum so I won't go into details again - still convinced he failed me the second time cos I turned up for the test in trainers not boots though Evil or Very Mad - still can't think WHY I did that either...... Rolling Eyes )

As others have said, just think of that lovely bike waiting for you when you finally do pass! Is there anywhere you could trailer it or have it ridden by someone else to before your next test so you can actually have a ride on your own bike? We have a very big, very empty on Sundays Asda carpark near us that we know the security people on, so I was able to go there and ride my own bike between my second and third tests. It made me all the more determined to pass!

By the third test, I was thinking "I'm just going to keep going and going and going, eventually they'll have to give in and pass me!" And they did!

Stay positive, You know you can do it, your instructor knows you can do it, all you have to do is show some other guy that you can for a measly 20 minutes. 20 minutes for a whole lifetiime of biking! Bargain!

All the best.

I passed 3rd time so know how you feel.

1st time for failed for undertaking a car.
2nd time just cocked up, nothing went right for me from the moment that test started and went down hill really - I just wasn't up for it that day.
3rd time passed with 1 minor for indication if I recall. Just went out there and did it.

You shouldn't have bought a bike beforehand, puts undue pressure on you.

Oh and don't talk to anyone or tell anyone you are taking your test because you'll put yourself under undue pressue. Relax and just go with it. Forget about all the other failures at the end of the day it is only money and you'll get there.

Sometimes it is helpful. I bought a 125 before I did my CBT and I found it was the only thing that kept me going. I had "failed" it before and was all ready to throw in the towel the second time but the fact that I had spent £1,500 on bike and gear was a good motivator for me.

It's all a matter of confidence. One thing you could try is:

The night before your test, take 30 minutes or so before you go to sleep to lay on the bed with your eyes closed and repeatedly tell yourself that you are good enough etc etc....

I've used this technique to good effect for football, interviews, conferences and presentations. It's just basically one way of psyching yourself up.

The technique that I use is basically to repeat one positive phrase over and over again in my mind. It may take 15-20 minutes of repeating the same thing, but when I do this I can gradually feel my confidence increasing.

in my experience the biggest advantage of this is that you wake up feeling positive and ready for whatever it is that you are about to do. Some people on here would say that this is a load of crap and a waste of time, but it works for me and it doesn't cost anything to try.

Not at all. Top athletes do something similar all the time. Visualisation is a very powerful technique for altering your perception of a situation. Try the above, but you could also try lying there and actually visualising the test over and over again, but rather than worry about all the ways it could go wrong, do the opposite. Imagine you are doing the test and picture yourself nailing all the tricky bits first time, like the U-turn etc. The more times you imagine yourself passing the better.

If you think about it this is just the opposite of what everyone does when they get nervous. All the time you are nervous you are thinking "what if I fail again, that would be awful, etc." and thinking about how you could fail.

Good luck Thumbs Up

Do what I did, imagine it's actually one of your instructors behind you instead of the examiner. I did this and got away with passing 2nd time around with 4 completely different minors to the first time.

BUT most of all RELAX

One thing to do is talk yourself round as you ride. Spot a hazard then say it out loud. Noone can hear you and some people find this helps. Also when you check the mirrors, lifesavers, signal etc.

Just take it slowly and carefully.

Going for a ride with my dad really helped, he rides so slowly and controlled. Whereas it seems like I'm frantically ragging it everywhere doing everything at once.

Just calm down, slow down, do everything in turn, don't rush to get up to speed etc.

I just remembered this, kept looking over my shoulders and got through it just fine first time.

took me 4 car tests though.

Say that to yourself....over and over....before the test. After all....it is only a test. And wait any longer and your lvoely bike will be held hostage by some rather nasty looking spiders/cobwebs Laughing

Bloody good luck for next time round mate.

You said it yourself...YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH! If you know that you are then you will succeed...& I'm with you all the way.

On me CBT (know thats slightly different, but bear with me!) was doing really well till I took me eye off the road, clipped a kerb on a roundabout & came off. Damaged the bike & smashed my leg. Went back to the centre, had a breather & the instructor gave me the option of leaving it for another week or going back out there...I went straight back out, covered that damn roundabout, passed the test & then went to casualty smiling heheh.

YOU WILL DO IT!! All the best.
