Hey guys, looking for some inspiration.

Just rode home from work, bike was fine for first half journey, then as I pulled up at a road works red light I shifted down into first, pulled in the clutch and my engine died completely. Shift back into neutral, thumb the starter, starts fine. Shift back to first, big (I think bigger than usual? they're pretty clonky) clonk from gearbox, engine drops again. Managed to get it to pull away by keeping the revs up a little as I shifted down into 1st but it basically died every time I pulled the clutch in for more than a few seconds.

Got it home and checked it over. Seems the kickstand switch is alright, doesn't seem too gummed up with crud at least but I can't comment on the electrical integrity. Shifting down into first definitely giving a bit of a crunch. Shifted up and down for a bit with the bike running and some times in 1st it would run fine with the clutch in, sometimes it would die straight away.

Got tomorrow morning to investigate and attempt some kind of fix, looking for ideas as to what to check. Thoughts so far are;

- Kickstand switch is acting the fool. Can lube it up etc and try to check the wiring as best I can.

-Clutch springs/plates? If the clutch springs went and the plates were dragging I guess this would cause the engine to fail - but even if I was still doing 15mph? :S

- Gearbox? (?????? I'm not v gearbox savvy so unsure how this could affect or how to test issues)

- Chain is quite slack and definitely needs tensioning and sprockets are a little rough but certainly still serviceable - could a slack chain be f'ing with my s?

Ideas & knowhow on a postcard to... Confused

Could be clutch adjustment.

Hydraulic or cable clutch? If its hydraulic the slave cylinder might be leaking.

Is cable. Should be easy to adjust.

Alternatively, the cable could be on the point of breaking, but again this is easy to replace.

Checked the cable over and as far as I can see it seems alright. Did a range of adjustments at both ends from it's current position to lots of free play and very little free play and it didn't seem to affect the issue. The arm on the clutch cover is moving pretty freely too.

Did a little video with the Drift, as you see it dies momentarily after shift down - but not every time? Allows me to pull away once but then dies again when revs drop.

Got off, put into gear, pull in clutch and try to freehand the back wheel and you can hear & feel a lot of resistance before it starts moving.

Confused
