Paul Grange - Poor taste joke on a t-shirt worn down the pub

Look at the state of the poor guy over it.

I mean wow.

In Worcester. An event that has happened 30 years ago.

Poor taste and stupid, but wow.

Any input?

He sounds like an idiot. I can see getting barred from the pub, but arrested, and court time?
I would of thought a caution would be strong.

So it's not just me. I want to give the poor bastard a hug, frankly.

The media bullying in the UK is utterly shameful.

I must be the exception, because I think he's a cockend for even considering wearing such a slogan. I mean it doesn't warrant the outcome but the only reason you'd wear it is in the hope of provoking some real or feigned outrage. No sympathy here.

Go stand in the middle of Manchester wearing a t-shirt with the slogan,

"IRA Bombings, God's way of helping Rentokil"

Let me know how that works out for you.

Back in the 80's, I used regularly to wear this t-shirt.

https://shirtsofsatan.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/tumblr_kvkxqqcx6r1qzzumoo1_500.jpg

I expect I'd get the jail for it now unless I were a Labour MP or Councillor.

He is a muppet for rolling over. If it was "banter" aimed at his scally mates, then the the intent was to insult them rather than offend the world. Thanks to Darth May, that's not actually an offence any more.

It's social media again. He is a knobhead. The t shirt was not funny or clever. It was offensive.

However, in the good old days, wouldn't so-called peer pressure prevail? As someone else said, getting barred from the pub, or some abuse from other drinker or mates would mean job done.

But no. Not anymore, social media means that the faux outrage spreads, feeds itself and morphs into a baying mob with pitchforks and flaming torches.

Thus, the police (who won't even come to your house if you're burgled or your car is stolen) end up knocking on his door and charges are laid against him.

It's not proportionate, there should never have been a prosecution.

It is frightening how one, private individual's mistake becomes the crime of the century thanks to "likes" or "shares". Everybody has to publish an opinion nowadays. It's not like he pished on a war memorial on the anniversary of the Somme or anything, is it? Shocked

However, ZFG, if he thought that his t shirt was funny, maybe he should have stayed in that day.

Agree.

Daft how it became a national story though. He should be hated by his mates and just known as 'that dickhead', rather than being ruined completely.

This springs to mind: When online shaming spirals out of control

Charlie Brooker has it well;

Rebecca Black shaming

and equally distasteful, and more media contrived...

"Women hate me because I'm beautiful" global hate sponge

It is getting truly shameless these days.

When I was at school one of the girls* came out of the lav with her skirt accidentally tucked into the back of her pants.

Much hilarity ensued, she was mortified and occasionally teased for weeks afterwards then it was forgotten.

Nowadays such an event might easily result in pics shared on social media, inviting opinions of and mocking by strangers, culminating in public shaming of an innocent mistake by someone who should have been able to rely on a friend having a quiet word in her ear, enabling the situation to be quietly rectified.

Many of these so-called shaming incidents are similar to the above, a careless mistake by someone living an otherwise uncontroversial life.

The course of your life should not be changed by other people's reactions to your silly mistake.

It stinks.
