Suzuki GN 250

I have just got my motorbike license, and have been shopping around for my first bike. I found a pretty nice Suzuki GN 250 for sale, but I have never ridden one or heard of the model. Anyone out there who owns one or has some info about the bike, your input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Its probably just a GN125 (good if slightly dated 125) only with a twin cylinder engine.
Expect 35bhp, top speed of 90mph, cruising speed of around 70mph, reliability and a decent level of comfort.

If you just want a commuter bike thats cheap to run it would be great. If you want something sporty to thrash at the weekends, its not the type of bike you should be looking for.

I'm currently riding a GN250. The bike before was a VFR400, so I'm definitely feeling the difference.

One thing I will never fault the GN250 for is it's reliability. Mine is the original model year (1982) and basically nothing has gone wrong in the 7 months of continuous riding that I've put it through. Having been made for 23 years now theres plenty of spare parts around, so if anything does go wrong it should be inexpensive to repair.

A "Expect 35bhp, top speed of 90mph, cruising speed of around 70mph" sounds fair. The only problem I've had is the gearing. I'm inclined to think that over the years somebody has down-geared my bike. First gear is basically unuseable, hill starts are easy in second and even third. I'm inclined to gear it up a cog or two when the chain/sprockets need replacing.

If you're looking for a good reliable bike that will see you through problem free until you're ready for a bigger bike then the GN250 is a good choice. Also they hold their value pretty well, so if you don't like/out grow the GN you should get your money back.

Thanks guys/gals, it sounds like the bike is pretty much what I'm looking for. It is a nicely kept 1991 model, and for sale at a Honda dealership. I'm going for a test ride tomorrow, now that I've got my gloves, boots and draggin' jeans.
Does anyone know about any idiosyncrasies that the bike may have or particular parts that aren't up to scratch?
