Well, seems i fixed my oil leak looks like i was right in thinking it was from the cam chain tensioner.

This may seem like a stupid question..........I replaced the gasket last night, looks like it had been there years it was rock solid and brittle on the tensioner and a good quarter of it was missing. Could this of affected the bike performance?

Riding the bike to work this morning it just seems more responsive especially at higher speeds, now i dont know if i'm imagining it or if this could be the case. My theory would be if its losing oil through part of a missing gasket its losing oil pressure and compression? am i right or dreaming lol?

There is no pressure (there should not be any) behind the timing chain tensioner. The oil that was leaking there was result of spray by the timing chain itself. Now, the compression stuff, that all happens in the combustion chamber/s. There should be no pressure (do not mistake with oil/coolant pressure) cumulated in the engine outside the combustion chamber/s. There are a plenty of vent points (most likely the head and crank case) to prevent any pressure to be accumulate in the engine.

The gasket will affect the length of stroke so less air is sucked (pushed ) into the cylinder.
You can get the same sort of effect if you pack two plain washers under the fuel tank.
The aerofoil you create will increase airflow through the vunturitus and up-rate the swinging arm angle.

A lot of the above is pure theory based on a drug induced afterlife.
