I don't know how much it cost to administer the tax discs but it has to be offset.

I'm sure a lot of people forget when its due without the little bit of paper. TBH I forgot until I got a threatening 'reminder', mainly cos they stole 20 days off me when I taxed it previously, and as all the bike stuff was due at the end of the month it slipped my mind.

Just scrap it. Put the Taffys on the dole and increase the tax on petrol.

Best to just pay. ANPR cameras going up all over London, you soon wont be able to go anywhere without getting seen. Not worth the hassle.

Wife uses one for her car park ID badge. She pays 120 a month for her space, No ID badge = towed away.
Very rare theres someone in her space, but if they are a quick phone call to the removals guys and twenty minutes
later they aren't in her space any more. Laughing

Imagine the loss if they didn't make money on the double payment they get when vehicles change hands part way into a month.

I suspect those average speed cameras up the A14 are doing ANPR...

I really don't see how it's possible to lose money on this.

They don't have any additional admin costs dealing with paperwork, printing discs, making sure they're security checked, inks, etc..

And they now double charge you when you sell your car.

Tax evasion is no easier or harder. ANPR on cars is basically all they've done for years. Just because you don't have a disc in the car saying it ran out last month (which I used to do routinely as I never get round to swapping the disc) doesn't make you any more likely to get caught.

Also, everyone relies on the reminder coming through the post to tell them it's due. No one I've ever known as 'kept an eye' on their tax disc as it's coming up for renewal soon.

I call BS on the whole thing tbh.

Maybe this represents the money that people didn't reclaim for part-used VED when they could have. Now you get it back automatically whereas before you had to apply for it and, sod it I can't be bothered.

There's also no mention of the vehicle parc mix - maybe there are more vehicles in lower VED bands than there were?

They didn't lose money, they are just comparing to the year before. Their revenue went down 1.5% is all.

Could it be based on people selling that £250+ per year Mondeo for that £35 per year Focus?

Three of my cars are now tax exempt, which is nice Very Happy
