So my contract is up in a month and I'd like to go sim only rolling, preferably 4G.
Is this gonna be a suck it and see experience or are there any reliable go to companies I should be looking at?

Giffgaff is reliable, uses the O2 network infrastructure so same coverage, 1 month at a time and all their data is 4g.

They call them goodybags. You buy a goodybag which has XXX mins, XXX texts and Xgb data. This lasts a month then you buy another. Set it to do so automatically and it turns into a 1 month prepaid deal.

There are cheaper networks, but I'm fairly content with giffgaff at the moment.

As DrDonnyIdontlikemusicbecauseimweirdbrago says, Giffgaff are reliable and reasonably priced. I have been looking elsewhere recently as their goodybags do not include a lot of data but my use is sporadic it isn't worth switching.

I pay 3 £20 a month for an unlimited data package. More expensive than it used to be, but good coverage and I use about 50gb/month so cost effective for what I need.

Data usage is the deal breaker nowadays, but if you don't use more than a few GB a month Giffgaff are worth a look. Been using them about 9 months now and all good.

Edit - also my boy is on giffgaff and it's free calls/txts between us.

I'll have to stop reading online reviews and listen to the real people.
I was really swayed towards giffgaff but read some horror stories regarding financial mistakes and poor customer communication.
You lot seem to be happy as do a few blokes at work so I'll give them a go when the time comes.
I suppose on a rolling contract, there's not much to lose.
May as well go for the unlimited sim, it's a bit cheaper than my current deal and I like the idea of all that data.
Actually, it's not the money, although we're all after value, I just want reliability and accountability should things go tits up.

My contract was up in May and I was seriously considering switching over to Virgin from EE (was getting 1gb, 1000min and unlimited text with EE for £24 per month), Virgin sent some junk mail and they were offering 2,500 minutes, 2.5gb and unlimited texts for £10 per month.... so I called EE and said I wanted my PAC code as I was thinking of shifting to a different company (knowing that they would bend over backwards to keep me as a customer.... usually), they said "sure, who were you thinking of moving to and what were they offering?", so I told them and I was told to hang on a moment.... the guy came back and I've now got 2.5gb (I mainly use my wifi anyway), unlimited minutes and unlimited texts for £8 per month....

Only down side is Virgin was a 30 day rolling contract, with EE it's a 12 month contract... which I can live with (and they both use the same network anyway EE - T-mobile and Orange network. Virgin - EE network)

Could have referred you then we'd both get free credit Sad

Another vote for Giffgaff, I have the £10 p/m 'goodybag', 500 mins, 1GB data, unlimited texts. Good enough for browsing/sat nav use etc. Only if you watch videos do you really need more.

They do indeed use the o2 network, but any tech issues and I think they dump GG users first. Back during my first stint with Giffgaff (in 2012) 2 or 3 times in 6 months the whole network went down.

Not had this happen this time around (been back around a year), and I have an o2 work phone, and any issues seem to affect both networks the same.

If you have BT broadband it might be worth checking their deals out. They were offering a 2GB/500mins sim for £10 p/m in their recent sale, I'm waiting for another £8 p/m individual promo to come through then I'll switch.

I'm on IDMobile. Its run by carphone warehouse and uses the 3 network.

You can get rollover date usage if you don't use it all too

I'm with Virgin, been with them for donkey's.
After the latest and rather disappointing conversation I had, it looks like I'll be switching.
They seem to be pretty inflexible, even with long term customers.
I'm not asking for a lot, maybe a bit of a sweetener to stay but they won't deviate from the standard offers on their site.
If they did offer anything before I left, it would have to be substantial enough to make up for the lack of 4G.

Yes, I saw the 6gb for £12.50 deal. Might give them a shout and get details on their minutes and text t's and c's.

Only down side 12 month contract.....
Can also get the same cash back with ID mobile... again 12 month contract. Do not know how usage/costs compare though.

As ever look at the cashback sites even for sim only

When I had a brief look the ID one by Carphone warehouse looked the best deal.

Another thing to consider when choosing a network would be coverage, my work phone is on O2 and we get rubbish signal in the office, but EE works fine. So I'll be avoiding O2 when I come to switch. Might not be a problem if you work somewhere like London though...

I think that is "Always On" and not exactly unlimited where data is concerned.

You get 6GB of data and over that it's throttled right down during the day.

Giffgaff sim ordered.
Quite like the online community support, it's already answered a query I had regarding my phone and 4G compatability. Thumbs Up

FFS let someone refer you (me) Smile I think both people get £5 credit, useful when you're calling a number not included in your minutes, as I found out when I tried to call 101 the other day Confused

Too late,sim arrived today. Dance!

Not sure why I'm excited, I won't activate it until my old contract expires.
