 |
|
Next week I am heading off on a brief tour of Euroland, for the first part I have buddied up with Deaks then I will forge ahead on my own while he heads North to go see reindeer and Santa.
So here is the plan....
https://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r71/siany_album/Euro%202016/1aa81fbb-ada2-492d-8967-a83900b56783_zpsbnkrffht.jpg
Train to France, a couple of quick overnight stops in Germany then an overnight ferry to Oslo. Deaks is going to carry on round Norway while I head into Sweden then into Denmark via the Oresund Bridge and down towards Berlin. From Berlin its over to Prague then back again via Brussels.
I'm taking the gixer and have already sold the rest of my worldly possessions to be able to afford a beer in Oslo! Besides this useful thread about Prague, has anyone got any top tips for places to visit in Oslo, Copenhagen or Berlin?
Or general Europe touring advice? ____________________ Theory test - 19/8/09, CBT - 11/10/09, MOD 1 - 16/8/10, MOD 2 - 27/10/10

Wrap the chain lube up well before putting it in with your other stuff ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Small can will do. Just grab one from a shop, little wd40 lube pack. Enough for a few lube sessions.
Sure you'll be fine, check in though to keep us updated. |

chain lube a priority.
As for oil, wouldnt take space up with this, you can grab it when needed no problem.
Pack light, you will enjoy it more. Pack then remove half your stuff and thats your kit |

Try not to use debit or cash cards. If on some place you experience card number fraud (it has happened to me) from debit card or cash card you'll loose the money. If that happens on a credit card the bank will refund you the stolen money 100%.
Also FYI you can buy chain lube/oil/petrol in Europe too I wouldn't bother to have one with me
You will be fine.
You need to try in Prague knedliki z gulaszem. Also in most small food shops called Lahodky there they sell like 10 different cold salads and many variaties of meet that you order sliced and buy fresh bread all can be eaten in the shop.
In Oslo in supermarkets they have about 15 different kinds of hot grilled meat, meatballs etc. If you like ginourmous quantities of meat like me, that is the place.
Try Illegal Burger on Møllergata 23. The best burger in town.
For restaurants try Mogador on Toftes gate 41. It has tapas, Afghan and Morrocan food. ____________________ Adrian Monk: Unless I'm wrong, which, you know, I'm not...

I now have a teeny can of chain lube to add to the collection. The bike is showing an FI error again but I hope that's just a battery thing so I will leave it on trickle charge overnight and take it out tomorrow for a spin.
Insurance company informed
Bank informed (they have already cancelled the payment for my hotel in Prague, thanks for that!)
Now I need to pack. And then take half out and repack ____________________ Theory test - 19/8/09, CBT - 11/10/09, MOD 1 - 16/8/10, MOD 2 - 27/10/10

Check the dealer mode for the error. Just bridge the gap in the little plug. You don't want an injector issue. If needed you are welcome to switch bikes if absolutely want 100% reliable
Serious in the bog roll btw. Without it I'd have had a seriously worse 1st morning in Spain. |

I have the magic paperclip to put the blame me in dealer mode but like a lemon I cleared the error off when I switched the bike off! I will check it again tomorrow.
Thanks for the offer of the bike though Paddy I'm sure I could force myself to ride a thou!
Bog roll isn't going to be an issue as I'm staying in hotels and plan to liberate freebies where possible. ____________________ Theory test - 19/8/09, CBT - 11/10/09, MOD 1 - 16/8/10, MOD 2 - 27/10/10

If you see it's a risky error then more than welcome. I had C24 show up on my old GSXR and was dubious about riding. It failed 4 miles from home the day after. |

FI again this morning, did the paperclip thing and got C00 which is no fault, now nothing shows up. Starts normally, temperature starts to rise as it should do. I'm going to take it out for a spin and see.
I'm away for three weeks or so Paddy, not sure you would want to lend your bike over that amount of miles for that amount of time!
Edit - just realised I turned the ignition off before putting it in dealer mode so I wiped the code. What an idiot. ____________________ Theory test - 19/8/09, CBT - 11/10/09, MOD 1 - 16/8/10, MOD 2 - 27/10/10

Day 1 - London to Dortmund 360ish miles
A bright early start today, up at 5.30 to leave for 6.15 to meet up with my riding buddies for the first part about of my trip. With the bike fully loaded up it felt really weird at first and I have had to adopt a kind of gymnastic vault to get my leg over (giggle).
My rough starting mileage give or take a few miles
https://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r71/siany_album/Euro%202016/9F51FBB3-2631-4AA8-95A8-876D0313E486_zpsw4fvj3af.jpg
From the meetup point we got on to the M20 and motored along to Folkestone to get the Chunnel across in to France. Quick and easy and we pretty much just went straight through on to the train. Passport checks were non existent and you just had to show it to the French border police.
GSXR k6 sport touring edition!

From Calais we went through France as quickly as possible, did the length of Belgium, cut through pat of the Netherlands and then in to Germany. It was boring motorway miles so not much to report there.
Except that these do not really taste like the sauce....

Hotel is nice (I'm stealing the soap and shampoo tomorrow) but requires a glass lift to get up to our floor. I don't like lifts and I don't like heights! We had to park our bikes out on the road for tonight and not in the hotel car park as the attendant guy yelled at us to get out. Charming!
Sitrep
Strops - 1
Bruises - numerous
Knees - sore and red
Drinks required - many
More to follow when I eventually drag myself out of this wonderful bath..... ____________________ Theory test - 19/8/09, CBT - 11/10/09, MOD 1 - 16/8/10, MOD 2 - 27/10/10
