Right, my bike and the area around my bike smells of petrol and everyone is saying thats not right theres something wrong with it. Well every bike ive used has had that typical bike/petrol smell so im assuming its nothing out of the ordinary as theres no leaks or puddles under the bike so why does the bike smell of petrol?
*told you it was retarded* |

Well first thing I'd do is put a "No Smoking" sign on it, for whenever you go out on it. Then go around it checking for slight leaks, mainly around the petrol tank and carbs. If you can't find anything then stick pine tree car smellies around your friends necks to shut them up.

I would imagine it's my RXS . ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

Your garage smells of petrol? You're lucky, mine stinks of god knows how many solvents, greases, degreasers, paints, lacquers, varnishes, oil and also petrol. It's enough to make you feel odd sometimes.
The last time I got a really bad petrol smell it was because I was moving a tank and somehow managed to turn the tap while I was putting it down on the bench.
There's always a bit left in the hose at the pump to annoy you too. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

My bike used to smell a lot of petrol, but not so much these days. No idea why.
I assume your bike is carbed? If so, and if no liquid petrol is leaking out, I wouldn't worry about it too much. ____________________ Yamaha SZR660 Caution to the wind, the throttle pinned! |

Guys if you are still experiencing gas (fuel) smell I found the solution to it on my Yamaha XT660Z Tenere 2009. It got very bad about 3 weeks ago so I removed all bolts from fuel cap and found 4 small springs under the rubber seal. Make sure you put rag over the fuel tank neck so you don't drop anything inside before you start removing anything. I extended those 4 springs by about 5mm by pressing flat head screw driver in between the spirals of the springs. Put them back in and it solved it all. No more gas smell. Those springs get weaker with age and there is not enough pressure for the rubber seal to seal the fuel tank entry. Good luck with this and don't inhale fuel vapour if you don't have to. Stay safe. |
