You might have missed this, but the Jocks were planning to make every single child a de facto ward of the state, regardless of whether there was any indication of a problem with their non-governmental geno-support unit (or "parents" as we used to be known).

Dear Leader Nicky knows what's best for you.

The Jockish courts gave it the thumbs up, but the Supremes in That London just knocked it back. Sadly, not on principle, but on a data sharing technicality.

One to keep an eye on. Plaid Commie always doubles down rather than backing down.

Does she tie her rivals to the barrel of mons meg and blow their innards all over Edinburgh yet Roger?

Or is she saving that for the Turkey style cull of opponents when she declares independence?

At this point I think it's just taking names, but I do genuinely think that an independent Scotchland would devolve into socialist despotism rather quickly. Fortunately, it's not that far to the border.

Having school age kids, it's quite eye opening seeing the diet of steady social engineering propaganda that they're being fed. It's a wonder that they have any time left for reading, riting and rithmetic.

Having listened to it on the radio there are arguments for and against but I can't see how you can get a teacher or someone to take on that responsibility. What happens if she 'fails' and something happens to the kid?

To use something that angers me intensely as an example. What happens if an immigrant family takes their daughter abroad to be mutilated (FGM). We can't even get prosecutions now even though it's been happening continuously for years. Do the parents (who should be done for child abuse IMO) get away with it but the watcher would get done because she didn't stop it?

So the Scottish government don't trust Scottish parents? Why ever not: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkuWrmxN7hg

Funny you should say that. There is a Welsh teenager (well she's 20 now) who was taken to Saudi Arabia when she was 16. She claims to be imprisoned in her father's home for kissing a boy and leading an unislamic life style.

Note how late it's been reported by the BBC. This story was known else where several years ago.

They would probably turn a blind eye to crimes committed by Muslims, so it doesn't really help. Multiculturalism, all cultures equal etc etc ya know?

Has there ever been a more Scottish name than that of the Education spokesman, Tavish Scott?

While trying not to veer too far into hyperbole, it does smack of Big Sister. The State is paramount over parents. Children can have no secrets from the State, for their own safety. But that means parents can have none either. Everybody starts as a child, and it's far, far easier to lose rights than to regain them.

The comfort is that it'll be comically badly run and under-resourced, but I'm sure it will result in a few parents getting sent to Re-education Camp for espousing ungoodthink.

<dummy-spit> If Jockland ever does detach from the Westminster teat, I'll be on the first Scotchman flying over the border. </dummy-spit>

Wasn't this going to cost $60M, or $7.5k per child?

Leftist parties can get away with spunking public monies on big projects.

Think it was a labour Govt who introduced the nuclear deterrent. The side benefits being jobs, and furthering technical development etc etc etc.

Similar arguments for big infrastructure type projects.

Cant really see any economic argument for the nanny scheme, ranks alongside state funded five a day co-ordinators etc.

I guess that by even asking if there is an economic argument, shows I don't understand the SNP socialist Utopian dream
