Have you ever considered the USA for a biking holiday?

Before l emigrated l used to go to Vegas once or twice a year, & always rented a Harley just for the hell of it!
Bike rental over here runs at about $100 a day & that's insurance & a helmet included.
As an alternative, & maybe cheaper holiday, l would strongly recommend trying America (even though Brexit messed up the quid/dollar exchange rate) because there are many bike rental companies over here, & the one l used to use was Eagleriders.

I've thought about it, but to be honest I would be put off by the fact that its almost all Harley rental companies.

I have a Harley, I sometimes ride it round London but to be quite frank, I'm not a huge fan.

Got a mate, Kiwi bloke who lives in Sacramento, who rides other sorts of bikes and often does road trips. So I have considered asking him if I can borrow one of his or his wife's bikes and go up the Pacific Coast Highway. Pretty sure he would be likely to have (other) biking friends all over the US where he could talk them into lending me a bike.

Only reason I've not actually done it is cos I've not been minded to find out for certain about insurance requirements if you borrow a bike from a mate, rather than rent one.

For what it costs to rent some crap heap Harley for a week, you could rent a Mustang or Challenger for an entire month....

I rented a BMW RT from Eaglerider LA for 17 days in 2012 and it cost about £2300

A Mustang Convertible was only £500 for 16 days in 2014 and 2016, so the saving paid for the flights and some of the hotel costs

There are plenty of twisty roads in the States BTW

You may have noticed, the majority of BCF are not generally fans of American iron.

Some of us are prepared, in the interests of international geniality, to consider such matters on a one-to-one basis, but for the most part, as a forum, BCF is underwhelmed with Harleys and the personal qualities of many of the people who ride them.

I can see you are trying to fit in and not whinge, whilst still attempting to retain your right to be an obnoxious bastard like the rest of us. Most of us had to rein-in the more (shall we say) outspoken parts of our personalities to first fit into BCF, but generally we've all found its kind of worth it in a lot of ways; once you get the hang of it, it is a relief to be able to let the belt buckle out and go back to being an stroppy so-and-so.

Do keep up the good work.

Are they bike friendly? What with the no filtering (in some states), and the running bikers off the road who dare to cross a line (heinous crime that) I'd be a little nervous. Also I'd want to rent something decent, so not a Harley
